71·1 month agoHonest question… Generally repurposing office buildings is a good thing. Other than circumventing process, is there an actual reason why the change was bad?

Black floors aren’t neutral
White wall at the wood panelling, natural wood color for the exposed beams, leave the fireplace exposed, normal colored oak floors, with a Persian rug… That would probably all work on updated but not sterile bullshit way

politics @lemmy.world•Why did a $154 billion CEO just endorse stripping most Americans of voting rights—and taking us back to the 19th century? | Fortune
11·2 months agoI don’t hate this, but my main concern has always been I don’t think people who own companies should be forced to sell their shares in what they built.
Maybe there are other fixes like taxing loans against equity as if the shares were sold (at whatever rate, like you propose)… That way you can hold more than a billion in net worth, but you can’t really access it.

Moreover, the Danes give about $1000/month to students enrolled in university. Foreningers have a work requirement (not much) to ge the same benefit, too.
Randy Johnson talks differently than I thought
As other mentioned its social security and Medicare tax. Social security tax ends after a point and Medicare tax continues (1.45% I think), hence the 2.2% effective tax rate.
What’s missing is also the employer taxes, which are mirrored, this the cost of carrying employees in the US is higher than the gross wage… So the effective tax and real wage is all masked. (Eg if my salary is $100,000 I pay like $12k in social taxes and my employer also does the same, meaning the cost to the employer to hire me is $112,000)
All this said, the limit on social security tax is fucking stupid and needs to be abolished.
