3·2 months agoClosest thing I know of is 2024 Ohio Issue 1 which was an attempt to create a citizen led committee that would draw the maps. A deceptive opposition campaign framed it as “requiring gerrymandering” and the Republican Secretary of State changed the ballot language to read that it would remove protections against gerrymandering. It was defeated, so I guess the article is correct if you go by that ballot language that was voted down.
So yeah there are protections against gerrymandering but only for the party who has the supermajority.
