I’ve played through both. The switch versions are very faithful to the originals, with a few things that stood out to me as different:
The bikes are implemented differently, so some of the bike puzzles can be easily cheesed.
Fairy type is present.
The underground has been redesigned to focus on catching Pokemon instead of multiplayer.
Elite 4 rematches are much more difficult.
There are a variety of small improvements throughout the game otherwise, so I think it would be fine to play these ones. If you want to experience both versions of gen 4 in some way, you could also play Platinum on the DS.
