This post is about the 24 hour panic machine designed to make you hate your neighbors which was an invention of Fox News, capitalizing on the fearful post-911 political environment.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Two guys at a dog park argued about Trump. Then they pulled their gunEnglish
231·3 days agoTypical MAGA scum - they hate free speech and want to murder their neighbors while disguising themselves with the ceremonial trappings of philosophies which espouse the opposite.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do I tell my (republican) parents when they constantly bring up expensive gas prices and put the burden on California because of gas taxes and "stupid" regulatory fees?
62·7 days agoI agree, based on my own experiences,.that no logic or reason can reach these people. I think we can move the conversation forward by admitting that there is a strong human instinct toward fascism. It’s in our DNA to salute the tallest thing in the room because ancestors that didn’t were purged. Those of us who can reason and maintain values are the exception to this flaw.
But is there another way to reach them on an emotional or instinctive level? Hope springs eternal in me, and I can’t help but feel the solution involves denying them their group identity and making a mockery and shaming them as pariahs for their bad behavior.
These days, the fact is that no MAGA scum is a conservative. They are radical revolutionaries, more naive than the most extreme patchouli scented hippies of the 1960s, who have abandoned their Christianity to worship a man who said the constitution should be dissolved simply because he lost a court case. I think this is the key, but I must admit, I’ve never been able to turn one of them. Sagan was right about the deep seated human instinct to ignore shameful evidence when one is tricked.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Gemini is now the only assistant available on my Pixel 9
119·18 days agoIf you can’t understand the utility of being able to speak commands to an assistant for simple tasks as opposed to unlocking phone and thumbing on a screen, context switching several times throughout the process, that is totally fine. You’re probably a smart cookie.
But you have to understand that your experience is so divorced from your fellow man that you should think of yourself as a bit of an alien and the exception. STT voice command interface is incredibly useful, and this is coming from someone who doesn’t use it for privacy reasons either.
It’s undeniably an incredibly efficient user input paradigm, much more so than thumbing on a screen in the opinion of many.
Smart cookies should be advocating for open / local solutions for STT voice interfaces, not denying their proven utility altogether with flippancy.
So many naive and disengenuous both-siders in this thread. You all support the guy who said the constitution should be disolved and signed an executive order attempting to overrule precedent set by Marbury v. Madison in 1803 because “both sides”?
The Democratic party hasn’t held the kind of 3 branch power MAGA currently abuses since the Obama era and they never did half of the corrupt shit the tired old man you worship does on the daily. Your both-sidesism rings hollow.
