1·21 days agoYah I suppose its just as preposterous that we have multiple trillion dollar valuations for any fucking single entity. Thank god they are defined as a person under Citizens United and can contribute to the democratic process. /s

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Beer tastes somewhat like piss because it's processed through fish bladders.English
3·21 days agoI once had an old timer in an Ireland pub tell me ‘the Guinness isn’t as good as it used be since they stopped using the fish guts.’ I can now imagine he was referencing this process? I wonder if Guinness stopped using this step as a cost reduction? Or maybe they still use it and he was just an old timer in an Irish pub. He probably doesn’t like people fact checking him on the internet so I’ll just let him have this one.

Explain Like I'm Five@lemmy.world•ELI5 What is the hate against socialism? I mean doesn't it mean a system where the people take care of themselves and neighbors?English
255·22 days agoELI5
People dislike socialism because they often feel like their hard work and effort does not get fairly rewarded. Why would you work your whole life away to become a doctor and save lives when someone else wastes their time lost in vice.
Well you’re 5 you piece of shit and your efforts at not pissing the bed have been pretty minimal at best. But do you still eat? Do you have a roof and a bed to piss all over? Who cleans that mess every time? People hate socialism because it sucks to be the provider. It also sucks to suffer. And in life we often forget this. We forget it takes all of us. We forget what it is to be helpless. We forget those who provided for us. And we get angry when we have to provide for others when we feel so left out of the party.
In short dont forget. Don’t forget what you have been given and don’t forget to share. Dumb kids.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something which you pay more than "it's worth" for the sake of good quality/experience?English
4·29 days agoEnough to make it feel like a punch in the gut. And then they schedule months out. Why do I do this? Two reasons, one i know they have already priced in all the headaches that they deal with on a daily instead of bullshitters who act like it is no big deal and two because once they start I know they will stand by their work and resolve any reasonable unforeseen/ concerns for the price they quoted. Real talk? Im a little lazy trying to get multiple people out and try to price around. If they show up for a quote when we scheduled it and know what they are talking about I pay.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Most, if not all car companies collect and profile your data, how can I improve my privacy when buying a modern car?English
1426·1 month agoDon’t. Despite the beliefs in modern cars saving the environment you’d probably do better to go vegetarian and repair an old gasoline car. Or you know use public transit with prepaid cards.
