Grateful for forbearance of 2 n00b questions

1 - I’m trying to access crafts/handmade [sub-lemmies] on lemm.ee - I end up just getting errors. Is there a recommended way to request that a server be considered for federation (I suspect that’s the reason I can’t load those posts in search results)

2 - if I wanted to organize a sub on a topic I have modded on other platforms, such as “fiber processing” or “handspinning” or “dyeing” … topics that currently have no equivalent on any lemmy servers we’re federated with… what’s the best way to a) find out what setup/admin tasks are recommended/required b) after reading, then where/how to submit a request to start that sub?

What about tape drives? You can still get them, and I have come across articles a few times (which I can’t find on a quick search, but I only use DDG now) saying that tape drives written 30-45 years ago, carefully conserved, were still readable after all that time.
