As usual, people who have lived in major cities their entire lives will say “that’s not good enough” for them.

We’re getting up there.
It honestly doesn’t take much more for the snowball effect to take hold.
Could be interesting to see how proprietary platforms respond to increased adoption. Maybe they’ll start removing their ads and surveillance, or even giving their operating systems away altogether (minus the source code, of course.)

gradual@lemmings.worldto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•An exciting new Switch emulator launches tomorrowEnglish1·1 day agoMaybe it’s just me. I don’t know much about emulation or console hardware, but I find it hard to believe that the architecture of the Switch 2 would be so radically different from the Switch 1 that developers would have a significantly harder time creating an emulator for it. What would be the purpose of making radical changes?
Yuzu had been around for years before it got taken down. I’d like to see a Switch 2 emulator pop up as soon as possible, of course.

It’s in a great state if you look back and play old games.
I recommend getting comfortable with emulators. Using them isn’t immediately straightforward, but with a bit of experience they become easier.
Some games I’d recommend just off the top of my head are:
Star Wars Jedi Power Battles
Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga
Resident Evil 5 & 6
Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 (1 goes up to 2 players, 2 goes up to 4)
A Way Out
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (short, but fun)
Legend of Mana is absolutely spectacular and any gaming duo would be delighted to play it.
Dynasty Warriors is good for some mindless fun, but don’t be fooled by how many games they have; they’re all pretty much the same thing.
I think Super Mario Wonder is actually 2-player, but I haven’t tried it yet. I plan too, though.
Super Mario Bros U goes up to 4 players and you can play with the Cemu, the Wii U emulator.
Cuphead
You’re right that couch co-op games are mostly on consoles. Thankfully we can play console games on PC for free.
I dunno, usually shilling something as hard as possible just means you’re a fanboy, it doesn’t mean it’s as good as you say it is.
I’ll wait and see until most people willingly make the choice to immutable distros before believing it’s “10/10 the future of linux” or whatever.
Personally, I get annoyed even on regular distros when there’s a file that I can’t easily edit. I don’t really see any of the benefit of immutable distros other than giving the fedora crowd (who loves shilling their OS) a stiffy.
I’m more interested in fixing real issues like having to prepend
prime-run
to every game I want to use my dedicated GPU or why my IP can leak while connected to a VPN using my system’s network configuration.Heck, I’d be interested in seeing a fix for LUKS when entering the wrong password once requires restarting because something failed to mount or whatever.
You know, practical problems.
I can’t wait until we get competing communities that aren’t so eager to censor dissent.
Taking power away from these abusive mods needs to happen yesterday.
Let the people decide for themselves what they get to see. That’s what the block feature is for.
Why are you installing malware in the first place?
It’s nice to be able to take a laptop and a few bluetooth controllers with me and be able to set up a portable retro gaming station literally anywhere.
Yep. I’m a much bigger fan of co-op games these days, so I have controllers and emulators at the ready to turn my laptop in a play station.
I guess it’s just up to individual preference.
Bingo.
Portability is a much bigger benefit than people realize.
Right now I’m typing this lying down comfortably in my bed, for example.
I think being tied to a desk to use our computers is unnecessary and reinforces a culture where people stay in their rooms and don’t connect with others in person as much as they otherwise would.
My computer is like my 2nd brain, so being able to have it with me just about anywhere I go is important.
I used to have a desktop mostly for gaming and a laptop for work, but managing 2 computers is more hassle than it’s worth so I decided to downsize to only 1 gaming laptop. “One machine to rule them all,” as I say.
My only regret is not making the decision way sooner. I genuinely believe my life would have been better off for it.

It Doesn’t Love Me Back: Post 1 – Built for Control, But Not for People — fireborn29·3 days ago“Built for control, but not for people” sums up so well what’s wrong with the developer-user disconnect among many in the free software space.
I think it has to do with neurodivergence, where a lot of people who use their computers 12+ hours a day can’t fathom that there are other people who don’t do the same.
So an announcement is irrelevant.
Is it really an ‘announcement’, or just the act of trying to cover it up in the first place?

Based on my experience and the experiences of literally everyone I know, performance of video players has never been an issue.
I don’t watch videos of such length and quality that seeking could cause lag; I’m glad I asked to get other people’s input.
Asking for benchmarks is just par for the course when measuring performance. It’s fine if they’re not there, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.
Now go away, you silly person.

You did great. Infinite scrolling is a meme and sucks more often than not.
Pagination is almost always the way to go for people whose brains aren’t rotted from twitter/instagram/tiktok.
And yet they still charge people for it.
