Technology@lemmy.world•‘I’m a modern-day luddite’: Meet the students who don’t use laptopsEnglish
2915·4 months agoAs “someone who gets distracted very easily,” he made the change to reclaim his attention span. Ditching his laptop gave him an environment where “YouTube isn’t around the corner” and he can focus on his reading.
This is just avoiding the issue of having a short attention span.
Reminds me a lot of fellow classmates at my college who I discovered hate online classes because they say they can’t stay focused. So I don’t know how these “luddite” students plan to not get distracted when their job will most likely involve sitting in front of a computer.

Technology@lemmy.world•Justice Department Sues Uber for Denying Rides to Passengers with Service Dogs, WheelchairsEnglish
11·4 months agoFrom my assumptions, the drivers see ahead of time if you use a wheelchair because the app asks you to mark yourself as a wheelchair user.
So you’d only be accepting it if you wanted to.

2·4 months agoI don’t think the commenter wanted drivers to let people squeeze their wheelchairs into their tiny cars, rather that taxis are convenient because they can probably specifically request one that accommodates them. I’m guessing Uber doesn’t let you do that, but I somewhat certain Lyft let’s you notify potential drivers that you are wheelchair-bound in case their car cannot fit you.

3·4 months agoThat’s really nice then. I’m wondering if that’s why I rarely see any regular taxis. 90% of the ones I spot are the ones that are in between an SUV and minivan.

8·4 months agoIf a wheelchair is non-stowable (I assume it means not able to fold?), then why is a taxi different? Or are you referring to the large taxi cabs?

27·4 months agoWow, I’ve only been using Lyft for a good while now and I just assumed Uber took disabled riders as serious as they do.
I’m not disabled or have a service animal, but Lyft makes it very visible on the app that if you are one/have one, the drivers MUST be accommodating. They make it easy to report as well if they are not.
At least one company seems to care (I hope).

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•F*ck off Arnie, you're out of your element!
1·5 months agoOh so that’s why they left? I was so confused about that situation because either PBS never said why or I missed it. Nor did any discussions I read about it.
No wonder they want the fucking FBI on them.

10·5 months agoIsn’t the redistricting going to happen no matter what? I haven’t read any news about Arnie’s involvement but if he’s supervising, that’s a good thing no?

31·5 months agoCan you elaborate on why Generation Zero? I remember seeing a trailer for it randomly before it released and thought it looked great. Haven’t heard a peep about it from anyone though, so assumed it ended up being boring.

4·5 months agoOnly 3 choices makes it a tough one since there are many exceptional games…
If I had to erase every experience of all games, the ones I’d keep are (in no particular order): Cyberpunk 2077 Fallout: New Vegas Sunset Overdrive

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•What to watch next after ST: Voyager?English
11·5 months agoExcept for the first time to learn the pain.
And the mirror universe intro should never be skipped.
It sucks so much that if the US kept up with green energy infrastructure (or nuclear power) all these datacenters (not just AI) could be running on abudant and cheap power without killing our environment.
xAI running off of fucking diesel generators should be a crime but environmental and human health issues get less attention than “look everyone it called itself Hitler, so crazy!!!”
Copilot in VScode is something you’d have to tear out of my cold, dead hands. Pressing Tab to auto complete is so useful. I use the GPT 4.1 model or whatever it is called. I tried Gemini but for some reason it’s complete ass when doing code. Android Studio Gemini is worse than the free tier on the website.
However, I’ve found the Gemini Pro model on the website is incredibly good for information assistance. To give an idea of my current uses, I have two chats pinned on it: fact checking and programming advice. I use the former for general research that would take more than a few minutes of Googling but need an answer now, and the latter for brainstorming code design or technical tutorials (recently had it help me set up a VM in WSL).
One tool I wish I could use is ElevenLabs. Had a friend on the free tier of it make some really cool and convincing voice lines (I forgot what character it was) a long time ago. Looks easy to use too. I can’t justify spending money just to play with it but if I had a purpose for it, I would.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something you never understood the hype for?
41·6 months agoI mean I couldn’t handle horror games even if I was just watching! The hardware stuff is valid though. I used to watch videos of this family play APB wayyy long ago since it was on PC only I think (or paid). Watching others play in a livestream just feels like blue balling yourself though.

10·6 months agoI’ve been watching countless PirateSoftware drama videos since it’s the clown that keeps on giving. I never bothered with drama channels on YouTube, so I never realized how much of an industry these people made out of it now that I keep getting recommend them. It’s sickening.
