1·4 hours agoHow would that work? What if I gain access to the AI and predict my own choices? Would the AI be able to predict that I am using it, and somehow come to a conclusion even though its conclusions would change my behavior?
Let’s say the AI says that I’ll do thing A, and then I see that and choose to do thing B, the AI is wrong.
But if AI had predicted thing B, I, the smartass, would’ve chosen to do thing A, the opposite, so the AI is wrong.
How intelligent would it need to be to realize that my behavior depends on its output, and that it could control me with its predictions? Maybe the AI predicts that I’ll use it, so it deliberately shifts its predictions in a way to make me act in its favor somehow…
Is there a name for this kind of paradox? Can a machine predict itself?
This is the issue I have with machines that predict the universe, because if the machine itself influences the universe (even if in a relatively small way), the machine would have to replicate itself in its simulation, which would be a problem as the simulated machine would also have to predict itself, etc, etc… this seems like it’d require infinite computing power. So by extension, if the super-intelligence wants to predict my actions, but I have access to the machine, then the machine would need to predict itself.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Are people still fooled by this dumb quiz's?English
7·2 days agoI get it, this is one of those reverse colorblindness tests that only colorblind people can see. The hippo must be in an unknown color only visible by those who can’t see other colors and have more experience with that unknown color. I can’t believe I just figured it out like that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your thoughts on the mass implementation of AI?
41·2 days agoThe only decent use of LLMs I have seen is a bot on Mastodon that generates alt-text automatically for posts of users who opt-in, and shows how much power was used to generate the text.
Other than that use case, I hate LLMs. They have never been useful for me and it just seems like overkill for most things, a search engine would do fine, you just have to use your brain a little bit.
Image generation also sucks. Stock images exist and you can just draw, take a photo, hire someone, etc. AI makes people less willing to learn because they think that AI can just do it better, it makes them miss out on the joy of art.
AI’s job is to lie about being human. I fundamentally disagree with that and think its existence is unnaceptable. If AI-generated output was somehow always tagged as AI-generated, then maybe I would change my mind about this, but this is completely unenforceable because AI copies and mimics human output.
Oldest trick in the book. For that, you just lost the game.

Yes, I replicated some features of fish in zsh because I liked some parts of fish but I didn’t like the different syntax (not that I’m too familiar with the shell, just familiar enough to get annoyed sometimes when using fish).
I use zsh and it’s fine, I use it with starship, zsh-syntax-highlighting and zsh-autosuggestions

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you rather eat a totato (potato that tastes like a tomato) or a pomato (tomato that tastes like a potato)?
131·6 days agoTotato, tomato taste without the weird gross tomato texture.

16·7 days agoThey killed 3rd party apps, I didn’t wanna use their app, so I switched to something else and that something else happened to be Lemmy. Turns out, Lemmy is even better than Reddit in many ways.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When/how frequently do you replace your phone with a new one?English
1·7 days agoLike about every 5 to 7 years as that’s usually when it starts getting pretty slow. Not sure why or if it’s planned obsolescence, I take good care of my phones. My current one was gifted to me by my aunt last year, at the right time.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What did you stupidly believe as a child?English
1·7 days agoI thought credit/debit cards had infinite money. Not sure how that idea didn’t lead to me doing incredibly stupid things.
I somehow also thought my parents got groceries for free because I didn’t see them giving physical paper money to the cashier. Or I confusingly also thought they were stealing or something, and the cashier just let them.
You can link to a reputable dictionary instead.

It’s SDL 2.6.5.79.79, which uses the a.b.c.x.x version numbering scheme where you increment the numbers whenever you feel like it. The x is repeated for security and redundancy.

Draw a tunnel or a door on a wall and see where it leads. Perhaps into the room on the other side, maybe into a pocket dimension.
