Terrible cuppa, definitely.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think that blue collar work should come under the category of skilled work?English
61·2 days ago“unskilled” directly refers to the amount of training a job requires to do it. Anyone can wash dishes or do a newspaper round without any training. It’s not a skill to wash a plate properly.
Anyone can do an unskilled job and be efficient at it in a short space of time.

62·2 days agoNewspaper round, washing dishes in a pub kitchen and working in a plant nursery putting seeds into soil in their trays.
None of them required any training, anyone could have done those jobs.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•BBC plans David Attenborough celebration for 100th birthdayEnglish
9·3 days agoAlthough Attenborough is not vegan or even vegetarian himself, he has frequently used his platform to promote plant-based diets.
In recent years, the broadcaster claims to have adopted a mostly vegetarian diet for environmental reasons and has cut red meat from his diet due to its environmental impact.
In a 2019 interview with Radio Times, he said he no longer has the ‘same appetite for meat’ – blaming the state of the planet.
However, he recognises his small consumption of poultry and fish is ‘middle-class hypocrisy’ and says it leaves his conscience feeling ‘troubled’.
He recognises his own hypocracy but looks to have vastly reduced his meat consumption. Nobody’s perfect, but he’s hardly totally ignorant about it.
You flipping turnip!

Ask UK@feddit.uk•Where do you draw the line between "go to the GP about it" or "tank the damage"?English
11·4 days agoDepends how bad it is that I can tolerate the 15 hours of automated bullshit I have to listen to before I can speak to a receptionist.
I’m from the North but I tend to use dinner for the evening meal, rather than tea. Dinner in my mind is the “big” meal of the day.
Well seeing as I gave you the idea, I think it’s only fair that I take some commission from your income… let’s say… 50%?

4·6 days agoThat was really interesting, thanks! There’s a lot of these kind of “ditches” where I live, the entire village is only 20 years old so they clearly had this in mind.
Cheers, I’ll take a look! I need something quite narrow, about 90cm, which narrows (ha ha ha) things down a bit.
A few of my colleagues manage to walk and talk and it works out fine, so I think I’d be good. Only one way to find out!
Good on you mate, hope it all goes well!
Damn mate 30 years is a hell of a shift! Would contracting be an option in your line of work?

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•UK bank bosses plan to set up Visa and Mastercard alternative amid Trump fearsEnglish
13·6 days agoHowever, the UK is taking a less aggressive stance, with Visa and Mastercard working within the initiative.
Both companies are part of the new funders group, giving them a stake and a say alongside a large number of banks and payment companies including Santander UK, NatWest, Nationwide, Lloyds Banking Group, the ATM network body Link, and Coventry Building Society.
I’m confused, Visa and MasterCard are involved in the project that’s looking to replace them?

71·6 days agoKeep it. There’s more than enough places to discuss politics.

It was OK thanks! Just busy with life stuff. Hopefully you can get your tooth sorted before your break so that you can enjoy it!
I’d bloody love a good solid couple of weeks off work with no responsibilities, it’s a pipedream at the moment!
