GrapheneOS is NOT rooted by default, and they explicit recommend NOT to do it, because it invalidates a huge part of their privacy guarantees.
I’m personally focusing on the parts of tech I still find enjoyable. Chip / circuit design, OS and low level programming, and Formal Verification.
All of the patient detailed work that AI is never going to be able to do, because it has to be perfect to work. I feel lucky that I enjoy this type of work, it seems to be very much against the Zeitgeist.
I need one clarification : If I start using chatGPT like crazy, without a subscription, does this help (by making user numbers look good) or hinder (by burning computing resources for no revenue) the company ?

One of the chief things that make macbooks commendable over PCs is the build quality. While I don’t doubt there are very many PCs with better hardware at that price point, often macs are superior by robustness, display resolution, and the quality of their keyboards and trackpads.
I hope this cheaper model doesn’t cheap out on that front. And if it also gets good Asahi Linux support, then it would get me to recommend it above anything else.
