Reddit mostly has some specific large communities I can’t find on lemmy due to size, or lemmys demographics just not enjoying that topic.

TheTimeKnife@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do I help my neighbor feel more comfortable asking for help?9·3 months agoJust be clear you are an option for help if needed, other than that be nice and don’t over worry. People with limited mobility like to run their own lives, just the same as we all do. It sounds like you’ve been a pleasant neighbor, keep it up and continue shoveling if you want. Snow is usually considered fair game for anyone willing, and people almost always appreciate its removal. If you don’t want pay, say it’s not something you accept for snow removal. Pretty normal for people who grew up in snowy cities to volunteer some shoveling time. If they ask you to stop, you should heed their request.

TheTimeKnife@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If it is common knowledge that shutting a garage door with a running ICE vehicle inside will kill you, why do you think so many people think 1 billion ICE vehicles aren't bad in the atmosphere?3·4 months agoBecause those have nothing to do with each other. You can also drown in your bathtub. That doesn’t mean water falling from the sky is an instant drowning. Quantity, method of exposure and context matter a lot when gauging how dangerous something can be.
ICE exhaust is poisonous, it’s significantly less poisonous when diluted by a large chunk of atmosphere. How much so isn’t a simple question, and it becomes much harder for the average person when it’s health effects are delayed for years to decades and those effects often have comorbidities with other risky behavior.
This is exactly why education is important, these things aren’t actually that apparent after we cleaned up some of the more obvious consequences from the start of the industrial revolution.
TheTimeKnife@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most immersive video game that you've played?10·5 months agoFallout New Vegas, had me fantasizing for weeks about being a desert cowboy. My wife and I finally went to Vegas and we visited a bunch of spots from the game. We played FNV all week together and then we went up the strat tower to get a birds eye view of the city. It was a really fun experience.
Game definitely shows its age now, but it really sold the atmosphere and dragged you into it when it came out.
I loved Enders Game, Enders Shadow and Speaker for the Dead. It had a great emotional importance to me. Especially Enders Shadow, it was one of the first books I read that properly described starvation. I went through a lot as a child, and Beans story of a starving, smart, small kid really resonated with me in the period after my own tribulation. I don’t think Shadow has the same impact on people without some of my experiences, so I chose to use the main arc and I’ve always felt that Ender would rather be remembered as The Speaker more than anything else. Probably silly, but I’m fine with that. In short, I agree, Enders Game is the better book. Speaker is just the pay off.
Moby Dick has always infuriated and enthralled me. I read 5 pages, hate myself. Start reading again in 15 minutes because I can’t get it out of my head.
