Why set up a Lemmy instance instead of creating a community on an existing instance?
Now you have to worry about hosting costs, domain renewal etc.

The question for me is if Privacy Badger does something that uBlock Origin doesn’t
The Palestinians are not terrorists. You cannot label a whole nation because of Hamas. Just like you cannot label all Americans because of the KKK.
How do you get that much money?
It does provide for the possibility of future legal action. This should have been done a year or two ago
If they really have the commitment to run that instance for years, and to organise a proper successor one day when they don’t want to do it any more - that would be growing the Fediverse. But if they abandon it after x years, they would be harming it.
