News@lemmy.world•Americans are holding onto devices longer than ever and it’s costing the economy
5·2 days agoI’d still be using my OG Google Pixel if it hadn’t suffered a sudden and unexpected death. I was using it like normal one day and it just turned off.

News@lemmy.world•Americans are holding onto devices longer than ever and it’s costing the economy
47·2 days agoYeah, no shit. No one wants to buy a new $1200 phone that does the exact same shit as the last $1200 phone.

You know I don’t think I ever checked out waterfox. I’ll give it a look.
Meh, until there is an actually good alternative to Firefox with a mature extension ecosystem I’ll continue to use it and just disable the new features I don’t like. I have tried a bunch of the alternatives and they’re all either massively lacking in extensions, are chromium-based, or are sketchy in some way. I think the most promising potential replacement is flalkon, but it’s not there yet and I’m a GTK Stan anyway.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Rust developer has 'no plans' for Linux or Proton support, says games that support them are 'not serious about anti-cheat'English
3·6 days agoI tried to get into Rust a few times and never liked it. One time I even played with a decent group of people and it still sucked. They can keep their game.
Approximately $3500 - $4200 depending on options if anyone is curious as I was.
I’m pretty sure Cloudflare requires you to use their nameservers if you purchase a domain through them. So you would need to transfer your domain to another registrar first. I could be wrong though. I’m not an expert on this stuff and prefer to just use a dynamic DNS service instead of paying for a domain.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Cities Panic Over Having to Release Mass Surveillance Recordings
5·10 days agoThat’s why I installed an analog camera DVR system in my home. It cheap, reliable, locally hosted, and best of all I’m the only one with access. (Not counting the Chinese government via the mandated backdoor in the DVR firmware) it’s great!
EDIT: formatting
I try to when I have a choice. I’ll normally pick gtk apps over qt counterparts if they’re roughly equivalent feature-wise because my DE of choice uses gtk. That being said in some instances there just isn’t a gtk application that has the features I need. A good example is Kdenlive. There just isn’t anything gtk-based that comes close.
I’m glad all of you are using various Linux distros and I’m glad there is so much choice within this community. Keep it up!
I want to be sure they haven’t gone missing!

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Remote access home PC to test remote access to the work PC
0·26 days agoUsed to be OS/2 of some description but I think it’s more likely to be windows embedded these days. I fail to see how that’s revelant to this dude using an ancient version of office on his work PC though.

I recently got a creality printer for free and as someone who had little interest in 3D printing before, it’s been great. Completely maintenance free so far and I’ve gone through two entire spools of filament so it’s getting a ton of use!

Privacy@programming.dev•Stock Android users, are you considering switching your phone to another OS such as /e/os, GrapheneOS, LineageOS?
7·3 months agoI switched to iOS a few years ago after my OG pixel finally died and work was offering me a new iPhone for free. At this point I don’t really want to go through the hassle of migrating again. I have been keeping an eye on the whole Linux phone thing though because it’s really interesting. Without tap to pay or any sort of android auto/car play support I don’t think I’ll be fully switching anyway though.
EDIT: I re-read the post and realized OP was talking about android ROMs. As an iOS user I don’t really have a place in this conversation but I’ll leave my original post up anyway.

So he traded Firefox for… basically Chromium.
