I’ve never heard of mangowc, and I’m scared of falling down another rabbit hole after cycling through so many window managers just to end up with sway again. I will not relapse.

I tried NixOS for a solid month, didn’t click for me, so now I’m on gentoo. I’ll have to try it again someday.
This is why I feel you can’t just start with abolishing the police. There’s too many problems that gave us the need for police as a band aid fix we need to focus on first. But then all these issues are so interconnected, it’s tricky.
Darn, I just replied with the same thing, but you beat me to it!
Better than Richard Stallman, that guy ate something off his foot in the middle of a conference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I25UeVXrEHQ
I wanted to rewatch it, but youtube wants me to verify my age for some reason, and I’m not doing that.
I’m a gnome fan myself, though I’ve been using a lot of distros without systemd recently while gnome has started requiring it so I’m probably not going to be seeing gnome for a while.

Ah, here go the COMMUNISTS again, with their “caring for the elderly”, and “cleaning up public spaces”.

The only true base is binary. I’m not even kidding, I still sometimes convert numbers to binary for the sake of simplifying operations if I’m tired. Have you ever tried calculating square roots in binary? It’s shockingly easy compared to decimal.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What are some of your most useful or favorite terminal commands?
1·11 days agoThis command has literally been my savior, but sadly it’s not supported on the fish shell…
I torture myself far too much with (relatively) obscure wayland window managers on my nvidia card, but I’ve had a decent experience with full desktop environments for a while.
Lmao, I just made this account, yeah. It’s not my first Lemmy account. I made an account on lemmy.world back in 2023 I think (lost the account), and a PieFed account earlier this year, which I hardly used. I thought I could use a fresh start. (And sorry for the ambiguous satire)
Sorry, my comment was satire, though I do daily drive Void Linux (and very much enjoy runit, and I’m looking to try openrc). Also I’m not really anti wayland, but I do dislike the squeezing of xorg development, as you mentioned. I’m pretty excited for the Phoenix project, as I’m a big fan of Zig myself, and I’m thinking of contributing. XLibre, I worry may be a lost cause with how many bridges I feel it’s maintainer has burned with so many people, but he’s also very committed so we’ll see.

Linux@lemmy.world•PC Gamer: make 2026 the year of Linux on (your) desktopEnglish
2·11 days agoCheckmate, 2020 was that year for me! But now I still work to switch my friends over to Linux. Well, I’ve only done that successfully once, but every bit helps.
Arch is utterly inferior because of its use of the Systemd “init” system, which is a bloated mess that completely disregards the Unix philosophy of doing one thing and doing it well, and shouldn’t be forgotten for its sins and heresy. “Arch Linux” (Really Arch Gnu/Linux, or more preferably Arch Gnu+Linux (Unless you consider that Gnu runs on top of Linux, in which case it’s Linux+Gnu)) cannot be taken seriously as a minimal do it yourself distro when it hinges on an software that has ties with RedHat, which has had a history of forcing their woke Wayland Display Server (Even though Xorg worked just fine, suspicious much?), as well as their DEI onto the entire Linux space - where politics shouldn’t play any role. A WOKE company like RedHat has no place in the open source community. If you want to be a true and righteous Linux user, I recommend Either Void Linux+Gnu (What manly men like myself use) or Gentoo.
Edit: this is satire, I clearly interact with these people far too often to have done this good of a job.
I will say the Ladybird leader Andreas Kling doesn’t have the best politics either, but it’s definitely preferable to Brave. I’m excited for Servo as well, since it’s finally been revived after getting dumped by Mozilla. It seems more technically interesting me too, beyond just being “another browser”. For the next year or two Zen Browser is going to remain my go-to, though.

The ebikes have been horrible in my town this year, probably half of them at this point have been modified to sound like motorcycles… Seriously, they’re just as loud. And I swear to god packs of kids will ride around with these things like a motorcycle gang. It’s kinda funny when I see them about, but I can’t say it’ll stay that way.
