I’ve been playing Sekiro lately. While it’s not generally on the top of “immersive games” lists, I find it immersive because of how cool the gameplay makes you feel. When you are just completely focused on timing each parry and reading the attacks of your enemy, it makes me feel like I’m actually in the game doing these feats. Combine that with the fact there are few cutscenes and little dialogue, and I’d say it feels pretty immersive.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Natalists of America, how do you expect the adults of tomorrow to solve world issues if they have to deal with gun violence?English
4·24 days agoI’m not a natalist, but let’s be real: the number if deaths caused by gun violence miniscule relative to the entire population. That said, 6 out of every 100000 kids die of firearm injuries and is the leading cause of death in children. Gun control is something that need to be improved in the country for sure. I’m just not sure it is a significant threat to “Clara.” A much bigger threat, imo, is the state of education and reliability of information today.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you think of people who CONSTANTLY talk about religion?English
2·29 days agoOK, but being a victim doesn’t make you immune to this categorization. A victim of sexual abuse who rapes someone is still a rapist. Someone who was persecuted for their race who then persecutes others for their race is still a racist. Victims don’t get a “Get Out of Jail” card.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many of you are actually fine with living in USA or are you planning on moving some where else?English
14·1 month agoThis question is asked as if there is an obvious destination. Where do I move? Europe/UK isn’t exactly killing it lately, so that’s out. That leaves Australia and NZ for English-speajing countries, but I know nothing about them. I could move to Japan since I know some Japanese, but the Japanese are not well-known to be accepting of foreigners. The PM is literally trying to limit immigration. So where should I be moving as an American?

Futurology@futurology.today•US researchers have developed the world's smallest fully programmable robots, on a scale of 0.2-0.5 millimeters, the same size as microorganisms that cause diseases like dysentery and schistosomiasis.English
5·2 months agoThink that sounds far-fetched? Evolution figured it out with single-cell organisms 2 billion years ago, and they haven’t faltered since.
The “brain” that is in these robots is incredibly simple and does not have the capability to learn. While it feels like tech is breaking boundaries every day, having any serious amount of computational power that simulates learning at this small of a scale is incredibly far off. The fear mongering is not necessary.

Linux@lemmy.ml•my reason why you should use KDE+Krohnkite instead of WMsEnglish
1·3 months agoBiggest con of KDE + Krohnkite (to me) is no text-based config. I really have no desire to pour through the GUI to set up all my keybinds. I’ve tried this setup before, and honestly I mostly like it. However anytime I want to change something I just hate having to click through a menu with my mouse. The search bar helps, but often you’ll spend a lot of time guessing what the devs decided to name a setting. I went back to Sway and have no regrets. Though I’ll admit I wish there was something that was basically Sway with the benefits you mentioned here.

Cooking @lemmy.world•I think my wife is trying to tell me something.English
1·6 months agoCleaning also takes less time, especially if you include all the planning that goes into cooking. Then if you consider the amount of time it’d take for the same meal to be made by other members of the household, you start to see that cleaning is actually a bargain. You also have to remember that even when you enjoy cooking, it is stil exhausting. They have less energy to clean than those who didn’t cook.
Obviously there is a limit. If the cook is making an excessive mess due to doing some particularly fancy cooking out of ambition, they should probably help out. But if you regularly reap the benefits of someone else’s skill in the kitchen, yes, you should help clean.

Programming@programming.dev•Ranking programming languages by energy efficiency (2021)English
171·6 months agoThe amount of CPU time compiling code is usually negligible compared to CPU time at runtime. Your comparison only really works if you are comparing against something like Rust, where less bugs are introduced due to certain guarantees by the language.
Regarding “language constructs” it really depends on what you mean. For example using numpy in python is kind of cheating because numpy is implemented in C. However using something like the algorithm libraries in Rust woulf be considered fair game since they are likely written in Rust itself.

I think you have it backwards. Coding games is complicated, and that’s why AI can’t be used to code them effectively.
