Political Memes@lemmy.world•Fox News might have a hit show on their hands
5·6 days agoNever met anyone who was proud to be from Texas that wasn’t a massive piece of shit. Feels like everyone decent living there hates it and wants to leave.
Yes, and for centuries, leaving your house while drunk to go get food was a viable option because walking or riding a horse while drunk is a lot safer than driving a car.
Then we got cars, and the roads became dangerous. And yes, there was a brief period where there were no delivery services from restaurants. But very quickly, restaurants realized they could get more sales if they offered to deliver food to people for reasons like the many I listed above.
So to be clear, are you pining for that brief period of time a handful of decades long, between the time of cars being widely adopted and restaurants offering delivery and using that as an example for something you believe everyone should return to?
They ordered pizza or Chinese or some local store that had their own delivery drivers. That doesn’t exist anymore. Stores outsource their deliveries to companies like door dash.
Oh sorry, was this supposed to be some dumbass “gotcha” that completely ignores reality?

Anarchism@lemmy.dbzer0.com•[Discussion] Are you pro or anti nuclear energy? Why?
41·6 days agoI don’t know? Maybe because that is a brain-dead fucking take on the importance of space travel and completely ignores how nearly every advancement in the space industry leads to massive improvements for people and society?
I don’t have the time or patience to deal with people who are too fucking stupid to be able to comprehend why. Whitey on the moon… Are you fucking serious?

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•How to stick it to the AI companies
25·6 days agoRegulation and accountability are one thing. Having a fucking pipe dream and saying some version of “if we all band together, they’ll fail because no one will be using it” is another.
You are not going to stop people from using AI. Thinking there is literally any scenario where people will just stop using AI, or stop creating content that AI can be trained on, means you have an utter misunderstanding of basic human nature. It’s like a child thinking they can stop all wars if they just explained to everyone that killing is bad.
That’s what this post is. Use sites like reddit. Don’t use sites like reddit. It doesn’t matter. Maybe it makes you personally feel better, but don’t delude yourself into thinking it makes a difference. You would have more luck trying to fight the tide by standing on the shore with a sign that says “Tide, please don’t come in today”.
I see posts like this as pathetic desperation. Someone upset that technology is growing in a direction they don’t like, so they are performing worthless actions and deluding themselves into thinking it means something.
Yea dude. Not wanting to drive after drinking is just laziness.
Because if your car has broken down, or you’re exhausted from a long day of work and your family is hungry, or you’re too drunk to safely drive but still want food, or if you straight up don’t have a car and don’t want to cook that night, or you are on vacation at a hotel or airbnb and don’t have other access to food, or you have a baby that you can’t just leave alone for a few minutes to go pick the food up, or you are in the middle of a study session and it would be more convenient to have the food come to you rather than going to get it.
Looks like there’s lots of reasons people might take advantage of the service that can deliver food to them, and it’s not unreasonable for them to expect that service to not completely fuck it up.

Anarchism@lemmy.dbzer0.com•[Discussion] Are you pro or anti nuclear energy? Why?
163·7 days agoPro. One of the cleanest energy sources you can get. Highly reliable. Fear about waste is vastly overblown which becomes apparent when you spend even a second researching it.
It is one of the only viable energy sources for space travel, which means it’s not something we should phase out or stop researching. The only real alternative at this time is hydrogen fuel cells, which are explosive, and a lot more complicated. Solar is only viable at a certain distance to the sun. Nuclear energy is the clear winner by almost every metric.
Think about how basic of a concept nuclear is. You have a spicy rock heat up fluid. The rock stays spicy for a long time and you rarely need to change it. That’s it. You’re not burning anything. You aren’t using overly complicated electrical equipment and membranes. You don’t need specific weather conditions or specific geological features like rivers or geothermal vents. It’s a rock that gets hot and can stay hot.

Give it to a girl you like, then go on a magical space adventure that may be a dream and has a story that makes no God damn sense.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your favorite shaving tool, if any? I'll go first...
3·7 days agoPeople shit on disposable razors all the time but… Several years ago, a brand called Dorco made a 6 bladed disposable razor that was absolutely fucking incredible. My face would feel like a baby’s ass after I shaved and had zero irritation. Then they suddenly switched factories and their razors became shitty. Really shitty. For a while you could buy surplus of the old stock on eBay and I bought a fuck ton of them. I’ve been slowly going through said stock and probably have another decade or so worth.
I have no idea what I’m going to do once I run out. Nothing else I’ve tried even comes remotely close to how well these razors work.

Games@lemmy.world•Games with singleplayer campaigns that let me fight/kill nazis?English
2·8 days agoI was so surprised I didn’t see Wolfenstein further up. They are like THE Nazi killing games.
I mean, the last one is actually true. ANY advancement in space travel is worth it. If you don’t understand why, you are not thinking long term enough.
If it was during totality, and you were actually in the path of totality, there is no harm looking at the sun, even with magnification. But ONLY during totality and ONLY if you are firmly within the path.
During the last solar eclipse, I had my telescope set up and knew we had just over 4 minutes. Once it went dark, I quickly got it aimed and saw the corona in all its glory. Literally the most incredible thing I have ever seen in my life. But I also had a stopwatch going as soon as totality started, and at 3 minutes I stopped and wouldn’t let anyone look through anymore. Even the tiniest sliver would be enough for serious eye damage.
So yea, it’s safe, but not a single second before, and not a single second after.

Pretty much the perfect plant that has nothing but positive benefits. People just decided they were a weed despite them being great for the soil, great for bees, lush, resilient, and literally every part of them being edible.

Seems like a straightforward solution to a simple problem. Pretty direct correlation with kids having access to smartphones vs declining grades and attention spans.
In schools that have started simply allowing phones in class, grades have improved. This seems like the next logical step. Its basically just returning to pre-smartphone days. Schools used to confiscate phones if you had them out at all during school hours.
People will disagree with simple solutions, but those are often the ones that works. Phones cause problems, get rid of phones. Simple and direct.
