Yeah I mean the 17th century when France and the rest of the continent was heavily censored books were printed freely in the UK and people had a lot of rights to criticize whatever they wanted to a degree. England had always had a higher degree of freedom in many respects.

Hector@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Taliban ban books written by women from Afghan universitiesEnglish11·43 minutes agoThese criticisms are broadly engineered and done to justify sanctions and stealing foreign currency reserves in case you didn’t know that.
Hector@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Taliban ban books written by women from Afghan universitiesEnglish1·44 minutes agoWhy are you up in the arms about the tail man and not other cultures that don’t respect women’s rights?
Hector@lemmy.worldto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•In the wild, chimpanzees likely ingest the equivalent of several alcoholic drinks every dayEnglish1·46 minutes agoNot like them condescending fools that say we come from monkeys, that ain’t my heritage! Is that your heritage?
But people are primates that evolved from primates, whether monkey is misused in terminology referring to all primates or nor.
Hector@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Taliban ban books written by women from Afghan universitiesEnglish12·50 minutes agoWell nothing helps those women out like stealing their foreign currency reserves so they can’t buy food. Or sanctioning their government. It is not like there are 100 other countries that are not respecting women’s rights that don’t get the same treatment from you for some reason? Because you are being too old against the Taliban by somebody with an agenda here.
Hector@lemmy.worldto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•In the wild, chimpanzees likely ingest the equivalent of several alcoholic drinks every dayEnglish15·2 hours agoIntelligently designed? I am just not you guys.
We came from the same ancestor as chimps. Just as birds came from dinosaurs.
Hector@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Taliban ban books written by women from Afghan universitiesEnglish14·2 hours agoWhy the concerted effort attacking the afghans for something others are guilty of? Saudis, etc.
This campaign stinks, probably us govt funded to further justify sanctions and stealing their currency going through international institutions.
Invading afghanistan and not having a marshall plan was always going to end lime this. This being better than us occupation in many respects because the taliban are honest and not corrupt from the top down as our puppet was.
Hector@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Taliban ban books written by women from Afghan universitiesEnglish24·2 hours agoGtfo with that since america left it is sad. The US had a corrupt regime in place, not anyone’s idea of good governance. Why are you tooling against afghanistan? Looking to steal their currency reserves again?
All these posts just reek of ignorance as to what the United States had going on over there, and selective outrage to justify stealing from them, of which their poor will suffer as always the regime will be stronger.

Hector@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Taliban ban books written by women from Afghan universitiesEnglish15·2 hours agoYet you are only wringing your hands on afghanistan, not saudi arabia or elsewhere.
Seems like a concerted effort to sanction the regime, steal their currency in the global markets, and prevent them from buying food. Biden actively tried to starve those woman he claimed to care about too when he personally decided to steal half of Afghanistan’s currency reserves they desperately needed to buy food to give to the 9/11 victims families for not extraditing and accused suspect to their hated enemy. I think you should rethink how much of a crime that is, not extraditing to an untrustworthy partner, let alone one that tortures people.
All of these Afghanistan posts just reek. Impoverishing them will not give woman more rights. Seeing as women are having their rights removed in the west here maybe you should concentrate on that?

Starmer is such a cunt. Betraying freedom of expression and protest as we speak, an ancient english freedom enjoyed when the mainland did not.
He is conservative, they purged any real reformers out of the party, mainly by conflating israel criticism with antisemitism as they controlled the party enforcement mechanism.
He is betraying the uk, and also making it inevitable the far right gets in to try and fix elections.
Hector@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Dutch parliament wants to follow U.S. example and label Antifa a terrorist organizationEnglish4·3 hours agoHuh I wonder about the dynamics of the vote here, I imagine the left center parties were hijacked by conservative aristocrats like in the rest of the west.
Those supposed left center lawmakers are very opposed to the actual left and see their reason for being as freezing out any reform minded ideas or candidates that could retake the privellage granted the aristocracy these last decades.
Sounds like they need some new leadership at their parties, not understanding nazis will not be good for the country or themselves is a dealbreaker with voters

Which I can do myself for a fraction of the cost, whole milk and brown sugar and coffee. If I want anyway I drink coffee black. And tea, almost always.
If you think they were better under the puppet regime you really don’t know what we had going on over there. The taliban are popular because they’re honest. Our hodgepodge of Warlords was anything but honest. Never stood a chance of winning over the country’s population because it never actually tried to. Something every single Inspector General said when they looked at Afghanistan and our position there for 20 years.
