If they would use lidar you would get speed and distance from surrounding objects, which seems like valuable data for a moving object. With cameras you get a 2d picture that can only guestimate distance using multiple cameras and software.

I think the selling point is that it is less distracting because the black and white eink display does not support videos or social media doom scrolling.

I think it’s muchore effective and cheaper to transfer this content via the Internet instead.

Vielleicht ist dieses Thema ja auch nur innerhalb der IT bubble bekannt. Bekannte “wiedersprechen” auch 2025 noch den AGBs mit einem öffentlichen Facebook Kommentar, weil sie sich für solche Themen absolut nicht interessieren.

Es geht nicht zwingend um den import von altem content. Jede neue webseite hat das henne - ei problem. Ohne interessante inhalte keine besucher, ohne besucher keine interessanten inhalte. Und leute die mit youtube geld verdiehnen werden nicht freiwillig auf eine andere plattform wechseln, wenn diese fuer die gleiche leistung weniger geld und weniger zuschauer bietet. Sowas klappt hoechstens wenn die neue plattform features hat die youtube nicht hat:

• Werbefreie/trackingfreie option
• dislike counter
• kein verbot von nippeln
• moeglichkeit fuer nutzer creators direkt zu bezahlen
• serioese plattform, die nicht sofort von leuten ueberrannt wird die vorher aus gutem grund von twitch und youtube verbannt wurden

Wie soll das gehen? Um die ganzen content creators auf eine neue Plattform zu ziehen musst du mindestens gleiche Einnahmen und gleiche Zuschauerzahlen bieten.
