Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How all do you use AI/ML in life? Especially offline uses
3·10 hours agoYou use it every day without realizing it, it’s been there for decades. The problem is not the technology but the people in control of it and their new bs hype bubble

Memes@lemmy.ml•WSJ is starting to prepare us for the water wars
92·11 days agoThe point is even our most basic of needs like ingesting water needs to be turned into a transfer of wealth to the 1%. This WSJ reporter is basically saying you should consume your water through soda instead of normal, clean water, that it’s good enough, which is very much isn’t

4·12 days agoAre there communities on Lemmy for this? If not we should make one to share links and eventually torrents…
Banning computers as a whole, anywhere, is dumb. This way of thinking has similar shortcomings to the under-18 or under-16 social media bans. People eventually need to learn how to interact with computers, to be productive , social, access information, participate in democracy, etc We should instead focus on making social media and computing in general less exploitative and more democratic & open, not preventing children from having access to these things
Every time mainstream channels like CNN or FOX show a clip of Hasan saying something deplorable, it’s just a clip of him saying something extremely based where he’s 100% correct

Linux@lemmy.ml•Omarchy Linux Just Got $8 Million From Tech's Biggest Names
381·14 days agoIf Gnome or KDE had gotten the money, important contributions would’ve been made to the Linux ecosystem, cause that’s what they do. Oligarchy Linux will at best contribute with nothing useful.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Omarchy Linux Just Got $8 Million From Tech's Biggest Names
22·14 days agoI think that’s an exact description of what’s happening here. Rich piece of shit starts an hobby and makes a shitty thing, gets an absurd amount of funding from his buddies, then makes the hobby worse for everyone else. Neat!
Apple Incorporated’s software looks more like the one on the left, but with a way more refined user interface… If we want OSS to be as good as possible then we need to compare our favorite software with other good software, not with Microslop. UI design matters and we should discuss it with less of a bias.
Yeah, they needed to capture a user base first and only then start enshittifying. This is what they always do - in software, hardware and other products & services

71·15 days agoThe new Qwen 3.8 and Gemma 4 models are honestly very good to the point I’ve stopped using proprietary models for most stuff, by running these on a Mac mini. No need for a data center with the energy consumption of Manhattan….

Technology@lemmy.ml•Windows 11's Weather app reportedly uses 5x more RAM than macOS's Weather app, with ads to boot by XDA on August 9, 2026
1·30 days agoHave you used the app in question? There’s animated hi res backgrounds that have to be loaded for diff locations, a live map, tons of detailed widgets and animations… 300MB seems reasonable to me. You might not want any of these things on a weather app, hence there are many to choose from out there ;)

What’s the bad place? Israel?
