Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week?
11·2 days agoCoffee Quake 2, a collection of 132 player-created Quake maps, each with an expected play time of about five minutes- roughly the length of a coffee break.

The maps’ brevity keeps things feeling fresh. There’s some unevenness but I can say this much for even the weakest inclusions: They’re short.
The first Coffee Quake is also good fun.

1·4 days agoIndeed, and “It is what it is.” and “It’s one of those things.” and “It has come to this.” and other such substantive axioms.
My previous reply was not to deny the fact of his presidency. It was to take exception to the notion that he is “the average joe in America” when he was rejected by America’s average joe at least three times as often as not.
In times past losing a presidential election spelled the end for a candidate’s presidential ambitions but for some reason the adjudicated rapist seems heedless of the electorate’s “No.”

United States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•Trump just soft-launched higher inflation as the new solution for rebalancing $40 trillion national debt
10·4 days agoAs a candidate, Donald Trump pledged to balance the federal budget and lower the national debt, promises that are proving difficult to keep.
Once he won, Trump considered an unusual approach that was quickly slapped down by his chief economic advisor, according to veteran journalist Bob Woodward’s new book, “Fear: Trump in the White House,” which went on sale Tuesday.
“Just run the presses — print money,” Trump said, according to Woodward, during a discussion on the national debt with Gary Cohn, former director of the White House National Economic Council.
“You don’t get to do it that way,” Cohn said, according to Woodward. “We have huge deficits and they matter. The government doesn’t keep a balance sheet like that.”
Cohn was “astounded at Trump’s lack of basic understanding,” Woodward writes.

The moon takes about half a degree of the sky’s arc. (So does the sun. That’s why total eclipses are possible.)
Since the horizons are 180 degrees apart, that means you could fit 360 moons in arc overhead from horizon to horizon.
Which looks impossible and demonstrates the optical illusion at play.

Technology@lemmy.world•Reddit is killing RSS feeds and ending public API access because of AI botsEnglish
17·6 days agoEnding the public API also prevents reddit users from deleting their post history without manually removing each post.
If you want to scrub your post history and prevent reddit from profiting from your input, use Power Delete Suite while you still can.

It is unlikely that reddit allows users to delete their content from the backend but this at least keeps your posts out of search results, which is a large part of their value.

5·6 days agoPerhaps NASA is doing it to make a trophy that might impress the imbecile emperor in hopes of securing funding for space science.
Like in Rainbow Mars when the Time Travel Bureau has to go on safari to capture extinct pets for their imbecile emperor.
I had to take a “business class” as a requirement for a programming degree. The final project was to present a business plan. It was a group project and one group had a member who could not read their part of the presentation. That is to say they were illiterate, not that they were experiencing stage fright. I presume they got a passing grade, too, since the instructor offered no criticism.

15·7 days agoLight web searching suggests that neither the automobile industry as a whole nor the health insurance industry as a whole exceed $3 trillion in annual global revenue. Which means the plagiarism-to-slop pipeline just needs to make a little bit more than the automobile and health insurance industries combined to justify itself.
