  • My guess is detail and economy of scale. Airsoft guns commonly use the design of a really world gun either licensed or legally distanced so can be very close to reality in looks. Airsoft is also quite a popular hobby so many manufacturers are involved. You are also looking at an M4 variant which is the single most popular Airsoft gun in the world. There are literally hundreds of variants running from cheap manual springs to high pressure air tanks and costing thousands. Prop guns are more niche, they are detail orientated and don’t need to function the same way. Maybe they make a pop and eject a case from the side of the gun which is more complex to do mechanically than send a little plastic bb out the barrel. There are less people buying each type of prop gun though so it will cost comparably more per item even if it technically doesn’t do as much.

  • Technical definition Drug- a substance which has an effect on the body. Ie literally everything you ingest.

Common parlance - a thing you take which has a medical or recreational effect. Ie paracetamol or weed.

Smoking (a drug) and alcohol (a drug) are common enough that they don’t count as drugs to most people so medics will usually ask smoking alcohol and drugs as 3 separate questions to cover all bases.

  • Most suicides are spur of the moment things in execution. So the more steps it takes to complete suicide the more chances for reflection and regret and the less likely it gets carried out.

Compare the steps required from gun and overdose.

Gun: decide on firearm, retrieve from storage, load, shoot.

Drugs- decide on the drug of choice, find a source of the drug, purchase enough to complete suicide (tricky to judge with many drugs and expensive with things like heroin), often purchase alcohol as well, prepare drugs (if tablets pop them out of the packets or prepare the heroin), take drugs (if taking tablets probably going to be swallowing tablets for a good while).

In the UK we limit the amount of drugs you can buy at one time (like paracetamol, a common overdose choice) as the extra step of having to visit multiple shops or come back repeatedly reduces suicide rates.

  • I’ve only hallucinated when I was young and really feverish and sick. I was scared of “lava buckets coming up the stairs” according to my dad.

I work with people with delirium who commonly hallucinate, it’s often things like people or animals. Common things are small children and dogs for the nicest ones and spiders or aggressive people for the less nice ones. They also don’t realise they are hallucinating a lot of the time. Being unwell is hard.

  • I’ve got a hp reverb G2 which runs through windows mixed reality, which is helpfully not supported now anyway. It’s also one of the smallest user bases for vr I think. Have you heard anything about that headset? When I looked initially (ages ago to be fair) I couldn’t find much about it with Linux.
