  • Growing rapidly since 2016, the group jumped from about 6,500 members in 2014 (with a median age of sixty-eight) to over one hundred thousand members (with a median age of about thirty-three) in 2026.

Could this be the 3rd party America so desperately needs? They still have this shitty voting system that always favors the 2 biggest, but still, could this be the first step towards a better democracy?

Oh but the article rebukes me:

Answering these questions requires resisting two temptations that have shaped much of the commentary on DSA. The first is triumphalism, the assumption that the organization’s growth is the leading edge of an irreversible socialist revival and that its trajectory can only continue upward. The second is the mirror image of this, a declinism that reads each of the group’s many internal crises as the beginning of the end. Both err in the same way: they mistake the story of a single organization for that of a whole political conjuncture. DSA’s rise cannot be understood apart from the institutional structure of American electoral politics, the specific sequence of events that revived the American left after 2008, and the strategic choices the organization has made in response to both.

  • And how did we (it’s not only France) get there? Neo-fucking-liberalism. Cronyism. Legal corruption.

That’s what needs to Change. Who has that in their political program? The neofascists just say it but it’s noise to distract from the above. Which is why they’re getting paid by industrialists and foreign actors that want to destabilise us.

Will the dissatisfied masses ever realise that? I think we can help them.

So who really has Change in their political program? That’s who we need to boost.

Seriously I’m so sick of hearing this shit. It’s been the same ever since practically every EU country ate the austerity narrative and the new right began to rise.

  • Victim blaming. I have seen it happening.

    SA warning

It was “but they were both on drugs” and “but they were in a relationship”.
    Often from women.

Then there’s the cherrypicking; one allegation was rape, the other that the guy was grooming her because he was much older than her. People got hung up on the age difference as something that shouldn’t be an issue, and ignored the much bigger issue: “what, now I can’t try to pick up young women anymore? You’re creating an athmosphere of fear and prosecution!” - No dipshit, you just can’t rape them.
The same applies to the person who stands with the victim (that was me): “but I’ve seen you flirting with younger women too! Don’t be so sanctimonious!”

Frankly, just trying to support her was a horrible experience. Can’t imagine how it must have felt for her. So brave to come forward.
But I wouldn’t miss this experience for the world.
    I hope you’re doing OK.

  • TBF (should we be fair to them? They aren’t fair to us) this is a patchwork, not a single conversation, but all individual statements could’ve come from just one person.

The point is - at least that’s how I see it - all social posturing from fascists is just that. They don’t care about other people, or people as a whole. What they really want is perfectly divided in and out groups, with them being in the in group. Freedoms and advantages that only apply to them and repression that only applies to the out group.
