I’d have been more interested in the animations if they had used KSP.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do people call Michael's house from GTA 5 a mansion?English
5·10 days agoI wish there was a way to aggregate communities across all instances, where the community name is identical, rather than having to go out and seek each and every community on a per-instance basis.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

311·13 days agoThere is a possibility this panel feeds into a larger solar collection system, and is a clever use of a distributed solar surface.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do wealthy people know if the people they meet are wealthy or not?English
53·14 days agoThis is the function of exclusive social or networking events. Often either an exclusive invite list or very high plate price. You’re either invited to the table, or pay to be there.
Once you’re at the event, you’re either known, or engage in small talk where details are revealed. Here strategic partnerships form, or there are quid pro quo for access to secondary or tertiary networks.
It’s not what you know; it’s who you know.

64·23 days agoThe brightest star in the sky is not the North Star (Polaris). If you follow the brightest star in the sky you will follow a planet and travel some curved path.
How to really find Polaris:

Ask Science@lemmy.world•How come planets move around in a circle for left to right or whatever? Why not a up and down circle like a target logo? I can explain further. thanks ahead of time.English
9·1 month agoIt all depends on your reference point. Typically when orbits are depicted for human understanding, they’re given a top-down view. Think like Open Street Maps. It could be depicted on its side, like watching race cars around a race track, but it can result in more visual distortions than a simple top-down view.
Alternatively, if you’re referring to orbits with high inclinations relative to the orbital plane, that also happens. Pluto, for example, has an inclination of ~17°, which is one of the reasons there are theories it was not part of the solar system when the solar system formed.

4·1 month agoDepending on your phone OS, iOS supports disabling biometrics if one repeatedly clicks the lock button. But this only narrows the attack surface, and relies on you having the wherewithal to recognize a situation when this needs to be done, or even being in a situation where you’d be able to.

This helps explain why days seem shorter as we age, the Earth is spinning faster due to the conservation of angular momentum. The days are literally shorter.
