Applying for jobs right now. Seeking pay rise right now.

Question for youse guys. Is it worth it to take a step down career wise for a pay rise? My thinking is, a job title is just a job title, and doesn’t really reflect on your capabilities as an employee. Yay or nay?

Depends on you of course. But if you would still be doing something that you like or don’t mind doing then yes for sure. We go to work to pay the bills and so if we can get more money then that’s a good thing.

I’m a very experienced electrician ( industrial and commercial ) with Petro Chem and extra high voltage experience. I’m also a very experienced and trained fire alarm installer/tech.

Last year I took in a job as storeman/trade assistant. I was also asked if I’d do FIFO. I did the FIFO thing for 7 weeks. I was a fire spotter on 11 hour night shifts. Back at the workshop I sometimes sweep up and empty bins. Sometimes I do deliveries or pick ups in a small truck. I also fill up shipping containers with a big variety of gear ready for big jobs.

Right now I’m standing around as a fire spotter out on site again. Sometimes I pass things to the boys, but mainly I’m twiddling my thumbs.

So yeah, have I taken a big step down ? Could I earn more money doing what I’ve done for so long in the past ? Yes to both, but I’m doing something different and I’m very content.

Well that was a ramble, but I think you now know my answer. Good luck.
