Good thing we have geniuses like this guy around to tell us shit we never could possibly have figured out on our own.

Even without the alarmism around self-evolving AI (which none of the studies done so far has show the current AI tech of being anywhere capable of) AI makes people which use it intelectually weaker because they become lazy and dependent on it to do the thinking for them, plus there’s the whole psychology of getting used to an automated “Yes man”.

So for Humanity overall, AI, similarly to the algorithms in Social Networks, are a bad thing because they promote in many if not most individuals negative behaviors such as intellectual laziness, dependency, addiction, superficialism, negative self-image, anger, delusions and so on.

Then, of course, for AI much more than for Social Networks, in addition to the negative psychological and behavioural impact, there’s the material cost - AI needs way more computing power to run, hence all the costs around hardware and power for data centers which even more directly impact on the Economy (taking those resources away from more productive uses) and hence on people’s quality of life.

I think at stage, the best hope is that AI explains the crazy math and physics results and drags humans along with it.

No the best hope is the bubble bursting an d a whole bunch of filthy capitalists wind up against the wall, put there by the people closest to them they fucked over.

In an ideal world LLMs would have stayed as a niche little research project that the researchers found the extents of long before anyone thought to turn them into the next block chain or NFTs. Gradually they would have diffused out as another data science tool that has some interesting applications but not a vehicle for the radical destabilization of the world we all live in.

No Geoffrey Hinton we would have been better off without scifi that obsessed about AI to the point that people have forgotten about Climate Change and Nuclear War as real threats.

World-unrenowned nobody, me, could have told you that. This is the beginning of the end.
