Oh no my protests turned violent! Violence is never the answer!

Except when it is the organized violence by the state in the form of police repression, poverty, denied healthcare, etc.

I talked to my mother recently. I told her I wouldn’t be a Jehovah’s Witness anymore. It wasn’t so bad. It was probably the most important conversation I ever had in my life.

At some point she mentioned that I have an “overdeveloped sense of justice” (??) because (I think) I talk a lot about how the system affects individuals. Communist education is working, I suppose lol

It’s an actual concept used to justified lack of empathy. Closest I can compare it to is how your typical reactionary would variably feel some form of disgust or feel that the ideal is childish. An overdeveloped sense of justice, an over-active empathy, a social justice warrior; all of these things seen as “juvenile” as it seems the correct way to succeed in this world and this society is to be sociopathic. Now repeat that on a generational level magnified thousandfold throughout society.

When studying Autistic folks, it is often referred to as “justice sensitivity” lol

I guess, by that, allistics mean that we are “over-sensitive” to the idea that certain people have or may get away with not just crime but absolutely horrific behavior while leaving the victims and communities scarred or forced to be confronted with acute suffering while some rich lawyer bails them out of jail or at least death row because “look, it was a complicated time and the emotions and tensions were high during such-and-such murder or similarly terrible act and, look, my client is clearly being framed in a highly politicized case and gas incurred terrible depression and depravation while in prison” or some such similar nonsense.

(I was thinking about this when reading about the court proceedings regarding Sam Altman and the sexual abuse charges by his sister)

But honestly, having a “sense of justice” is arguably even more underrated or maligned than being empathetic.

I mean, in pop culture, I have noticed that a lot of characters that get portrayed as having a particular sense of “justice sensitivity” are also portrayed as “rigid” or even a bit dumb or perhaps like some sort of chump or unassuming dullard (see: Syril Karn). In a Syril’s case, the guy literally had “SpongeBob SquarePants syndrome” and seemed in denial that the Imperial government could possibly just brazenly blockade and then strip apart a planet that was relatively well-known and had a seat in the Imperial Senate all while starting it off with a false flag attack and then attacking every person in sight throughout the capital city of Ghor. In fact, his whole arc begins with him feeling the need to avenge two drunk cops because, as far as he’s concerned, it’s"wrong" to just kill or murder people of the law who nobody seems to give a damn about while everybody around him just coasts through their job like nothing’s amiss (I don’t believe he or his friend in the first season ever really found out or knew about the altercation between the two pigs and Cass which, if I am remembering correctly, is a detail that I rather love).

        All this to say:

While I liked Syril’s character and arc as well as both seasons of Andor in general, Syril Karn’s character is definitely kinda archetypical at this point and comes with a lot of tropes attached to him that can be found in a lot of story-telling in Hollywood and other media in the United States and elsewhere past and present. I think tropes and archetypes are not necessarily bad writing and can be done right. That’s not necessarily what I find interesting.

I think it’s the idea that there aren’t many people I know that would question or interrogate the idea that a particularly “justice-minded person = a man of law and order = a goon with blind obedience to authoritarian or fascist tyranny.”

It’s almost as if it’s treated not as a trope or the author or writer’s point of view… but as a totally normal, totally obvious fact of life that such people are just a bunch of bootlickers.

Idk, I find that very interesting, ngl…

One hell of an explanation. I feel better now that I know that “justice sensitivity” in neurodiverse folks is a thing. There are a lot of things you don’t learn when you are treated as neurotypical your whole life, while likely being autistic. (More like quite likely, I got a 159 on the RAADS-R, but I think there are literally 0 ways of getting diagnosed where I live, and if there are, there is no way in hell I can afford them.)

I guess I should get to watching Andor then.

Andor is great and I liked the characters in the series as well (Cassian, Luthien, Syril, etc.).

Honestly, the tropiness of media nowadays doesn’t necessarily stop it from being good or at least well-executed.

Oh, thank you, I wasn’t necessarily trying to reprimand or shame you, it’s just that people, especially boomers and GenXers have a tendency to do this thing where, if someone suffered and they learn it informs their actions, they do the whole “Well, lol, I suffered twice and learned faster than you before your age, what are you doing, bro?” or some other nonsensical bile. Honestly, even Millennials do this a lot, I have noticed lately.

I wasn’t saying that that was what you were doing.

She didn’t disown you all at once? That’s pretty good. My extended family half adopted an ex-JW because her whole family completely cut her off from even speaking to them. It was mostly a lateral move because my family are evangelical Christians but she figured it out after about a year and stopped hanging out with my family too.

So I was in a lecture and there were some guys in front of me. They looked back at my fanny pack which has a communist sticker on it, and grinned to themselves about it. I made eye contact with them. You could tell they were looking down on me. I don’t know why they couldn’t be normal about it and just disagree without making themselves feel superior. It triggered my self esteem issues a lot and I wish I said something.

What I’ve gotten from some peers, other than puzzlement, is at times what I think is malevolent curiosity, oughtright dismissal, or being made fun of (like this one blond shitlib of the overachiever type I know).

I think the best way to deal with these types of people is to shoot them down, one way or another. Dismiss them, bore them to death, or make them embaressed that they even thought of doing what they did.

But that’s what we want to do, and sometimes we can’t. For now it’s best not to let them get to you, so that you can hopefully get back at them.

Okay, I suspect the CIA is in France stirring up the protests to funnel capital to the United States.

My intention isn’t to dismiss the protests, but I’m worried that the initial anger won’t translate into concrete demands that lead to a real movement. At the moment, despite the red flags seen in the media, I am quite skeptical of the outcome of these protests.

Furthermore, I believe a relatively easy way to identify those people is by the One Piece flag.

I feel that it’s almost a certainty that the US and other imperialist states are infiltrating and trying to steer all of the protests to whatever ends are most advantageous to them, or the least harmful.

It seems that the US state department is funding the electoral arm of the student movement in Serbia right now through several different organizations/NGOs. I happened to listen to a Madleton Pendleton video the other day where they went through the donor list of the student movement’s public facing org. While the information is coming from a youtuber and that means it’s not a certainty, I feel that it’s safe to assume the imperialists have their hands in as many pots as they can reach and student movements, with their lack of discipline and no ideological or party line, are easy to reach pots. We saw the color revolution in Nepal and how that ended.

Of course I’m not disparaging the protesters in Albania, France or anywhere. Their struggles are righteous and born from serious and real hardships. I hope for nothing but the best for them, genuinely, but the ruling class doesn’t need to start the fight, they just care about how it ends and they have most of the pieces on the board.

Working 32 hours a week while taking ten credits is killing me. I only slept four hours after getting home from work so that I could get up early and do schoolwork. We’re studying the musuculoskeletal system and the material is very dense.

i’m learning from reading his fans’ reactions that his big pull was being a dedicated husband to his war criminal wife. reading the comments, it’s like they felt like they were married to him. it’s an interesting thing to study in its own right. but now that he’s lost his main appeal, he’s just a boring middle-aged zionist. there’s nothing left of him.

now, his crew’s reaction is more interesting. because where do they get off pretending like they have moral reservations about this guy all of a sudden? i guess they’re probably angling for a spin-off show with the zionazi. actually, i’m envisioning a chance to turn this into a very lucrative “girlboss capitalist” moment.

Well, just got banned from the book server I loved over discussing communism. I know, not a great idea (possibly the worst idea) but they had a political channel and it wasn’t explicitly against the rules, and I informed them numerous times early on that I would stop if I was warned.

    I certainly learned my lesson.

Edit: I also asked what was and wasn’t allowed and they informed me that anything was allowed so long as I was respectful about it.

Edit 2: It was a Discord server. I bet you could tell already but I still felt the need to clarify that.

Let me guess: it was something to do with Stalin, gulags. the Holodomor, Mao, Tiananmen Square, Stasi or anything of that caliber?

Every place is cool with discussing communism so long as it’s conveniently only theoretical and nothing actually historical because the 10,000 lies dumped on every actually existing socialist state with an utter refusal to consider those well-funded narratives are wrong.

        tl;dr It was Mao.

We went back and forth about Chinese revolution for a short bit and they asked if it was worth all the people who died from starvation and the executions of educated people. I said the second part didn’t even happen (I’m pretty sure this is what did me in), I probably should’ve looked into it and tried to debunk it properly but it just looks so wrong on it’s face. Why would the Chinese even do that? Why would anyone do that (Pol Pot did because he was a crazy person but besides)? Given that the barefoot doctors program existed they clearly didn’t mass murder doctors, what the hell even is this claim?

I’m sorry that happened to you. Strategically speaking, maybe it would have worked better to hunt down a source on it and post that? But at the same time, it sounds like they were trigger happy about finding an excuse to ban you anyway.

In my experience, communism or not, few places on the internet are actually moderated with any kind of fairness or consistency of standards. Lemmygrad is one of the few places I’ve seen where I mostly agree with the decisions made and think they are genuinely trying to be principled about it. And I don’t say that to kiss ass, it’s just sadly true how rare it is in my experience. Much of the time, even in my liberal days on the internet, my experience is that moderators either act based on the letter of their law and ignore the spirit of it. Or they act basically on what they feel like doing in the moment and then (maybe) cite a rule after the fact to try to justify it.
