Decommunization in Kazakhstan continues. On October 13, 2026, a monument to Lenin was demolished in the village of Kushmurun, Kostanay region, at the request of the regional administration.
Previously, in April 2015, there were attempts to damage or blow up (https://kstnews.kz/21863-2/) the monument. Local residents had been defending the monument (https://kushmurun.com/17-istoriya/652-kak-zhiteli-v-kazakhstane-v-p-kushmurun-v-ocherednoj-raz-otstoyali-svoyu-ulitsu-ot-pereimenovanij-i-demontazha-pamyatnika-leninu) and opposing the renaming of Lenin Street for many years, but in October 2026, the monument was finally demolished.

Glad to see it was not because of the local residents… Hopefully one of them got to keep the pieces.
Did Kazakhstan elect a more reactionary regime recently?
Nope, it is the same regime led by Tokayev which is the one that joined the Abraham Accords last year.
