Although out Obama’s tenure everyone told me the GOP’s railing against Obama was the death woes of a dying party.

How I wish that was true

I always go back to McCains rally with Palin. And the old lady who said Obama was a terrorist and he basically had to say no hes not. He’s a good person with just different ideas on how to govern.

I thought two things at that moment. The crowd firmly belied the terrorist line but at the same time it exposed how crazy the crowd was when they booed.

And I thought most of America saw that crazy along with Palins and said they have no place of ever being in charge. Obama won in a landslide. And I truly believed the Republican party was finished.

And had sanders got the nomination I think the Republican party was officially dead. But the Dems fucked up and put in Hillary. Something that immediately lost the progressive vote. Then Trump did the whole grab them by the pussy bit and thought even with that Hillary should win. Nope .

Now they have someone that actively recruits the racists, Nazis and have them well established.

        Dems seriously fumbled with Hillary

I don’t know about you but I always have felt isolated in everything, I know that’s a gen x thing to say, but when you look at movies music for people our age, 48 leading the way There’s not a lot of 47-52 year olds out there representing us.

Like when we can get together and unite i think we’re successful but there are so few of us 77-82 it just doesn’t happen anymore and we have been divided now.

Like we grew up with the reality of the aids epidemic but our schools were still successful and I think we were the last ones to have good public schools before Regan and his policies destroyed what was still working.

Like believe it or not despite her being being a complete racist piece of shit. A lot of my morals came from the Roseanne show. My parents were never home. My dad tried to push church on me but I always saw the church crowd as hypocrits and have never went back

We Gen-X saw both a broken world but had hope of change (a lot of it was misleading, but we didn’t know then). You had that same hope, but saw problems on the horizon. Millennials were the first to see the hope was more propaganda and gaslighting than anything, and Gen Z… yeah, I feel bad for you guys, what a mess you grew into.

I.e., it was always messed up, they just were able to lie better back then. Now they’re not even trying, they just shrug and laugh.

another gen-xer here. What haunts me a tad is that we are such a quiet generational cohort that we risk not even existing in future historical anlyses of the decline of the US. We may just get lumped in with the boomers. I do feel like we were much different than them, but we never got anything done, or led anything. There was always this feeling that we’d get our chance when the boomers faded out of the picture and they just never did. I suppose we had to fight for it and we didnt (enough), or something.

If you Google prominent gen-X politicians a list of republicans come up starting with vance. No dems on the list. Then ask again for prominent genX politicians on the left and you get cory booker, Gavin Newsom, and Beto Orourke. Its like my whole generation never existed.

I don’t think we were ever designed to lead. We basically learned to survive on our own and grew to like being alone with no rules or schedule

I think the extremely young millennials and the old gen z helped create this right wing bullshit but it’s partly because we failed in teaching them we were just to busy trying to survive

They were new meat, ignorant thanks to failing schools and parents, and the conservative echo chamber was right there to give them something to grab onto, just like the Boomers designed it to do.

I’m most upset at my fellow Gen-Xs. My first taste of Facebook long ago showed me how so many of them completely went stupid. I knew these people, and yet some of the shit I saw them post. So it’s the Boomers’ fault, but damn, we dropped the balls too.

I get it completely. I have always felt as if we’re supposed to just shut up and take it, by our Boomer parents, our GenX elder siblings, etc. But as far as I’m concerned at this point in my life, they can all screw off. They have knowingly turned America into a shit hole and have the audacity to blame everyone else, including the younger generations. They were handed peace on a silver platter by their parents who fought and died in WWII. And they squandered it because of their macho ego.

Xennials not represented there (part of why they’re part Gen-X, never recognized). They have one foot in each generation, a group growing up in a small gap of time where they were part of before and after the technological swing. Shows how the explosion of tech created its own subset of generation.

It’s literally a 5 year gap towards the end of gen x. I didn’t see my first webpage until the day I graduated highschool and I immediately knew whatever school tried to prepare me for was outdated and then I helped my dad on the farm for 20 years and never really had a need for it despite being heavily interested in gaming and PCs

The generation thing is messy and inaccurate, and regionally shifted too because some people even as Millennials didn’t have access to things that characterize that generation. But as a trend yes, you were part of the last Gen-X, AND shared a lot of the Millennial aspects as you grew up with things Gen-X didn’t even dream about.
