with this trend, is it likely that brazil will go to runoff elections?
If Flavio’s count doesn’t go beyond 50%, then it seems highly likely that a runoff election will happen.
am i right in thinking that flavio is likely to win the runoff? it seems as though the majority of the third-party votes are for far-right candidates
It is difficult for me to make an educated guess because I don’t have as much insight as a Brazilian comrade.
Hopefully, someone with better insight might come along and give you their perspective.
my mistake. i thought i remembered you saying somewhere that you were brazilian, but i must have been thinking of someone else.
I am actually from Mexico. 😄
brazillian here, the scenario is panic inducing yes but its not lost yet, there were 5m blank votes and 32m abstentions, more than enough to make up the difference between lula and flavio plus other right wing candidates, with a course correction it can turn around, just as flavio got a head start, we also elected at least two congresspersons that openly claim themselves marxist-leninist and speaks the need of a communist revolution for the first time since the end of the mil dictatorship, those are Jones Manoel e Elias Jabour, besides them there was also a increase in quality of the elected left gradually replacing the post modern left that contributed in the depoliticization of the people and lastly the hoxaist party Unidade Popular doubled their presidential vote from last election even with a very bad campaign. the challenges are many, there is infiltration of neopentecostal churchs, big techs, usa gov, israel and a siege from the other latin american countries, it is only lost when the bell rings on 25th october, until that, gotta hang on, right now we are kinda licking our wounds and dizzy.
in that case, can i ask about the zapatistas? specifically, have they been an effective anti-imperialist force or are they going to end up like rojava?
From my personal point of view, they are similar to rojava without the US support(context -> https://lemmygrad.ml/post/6488415). They do make statements supporting Cuba but they sometimes invite USAID funded liberals that have voiced views against Nicaragua and Venezuela. Regardless of their views, they serve as a force that stops internal plunder within Chiapas.
but surely the US support would have been the central defining factor? meaning, even if they are a bit libbed up, they aren’t an extension of the empire in the way rojava is? that seems like what you’re getting at with the last sentence; am i right?
They also have cringe takes on Ukraine.
