Also, I’ve never tried chicory before, what’s it taste like? I know it’s a pretty historically popular coffee substitute but I’ve never needed to sub coffee before so I never tried it.
It’s less acidic than coffee but similarly bitter, so while I drink my coffee often black and without sugar for the chicory I find having a sweetener almost a necessity. This is a blend with rye and barley, that makes it more round. I agree with the other commenter that it tastes a bit woody. It has similar earthy tones to coffee, but I wouldn’t say it replicates well coffee. It’s its own thing.
The mug is form a company, so it just says the name of the company in binary.

it mostly tastes “brown” and “woody” to me. has a little bit of a resinous/creosote/herbaceous edge to it.
Why do you prefer chicory to coffee for your daily brew? Is it the caffeine or something else?
It started because my partner went fully caffeine free, so we went exploring. Up to now, this has been the choice we gave come back to the most often. I like the taste. It’s not coffee but it scratches the same itch.

chicory has a distinct taste, and is far cheaper than coffee. some enjoy it. i got some chicory some years back and tried determining if i liked it, but after some experimentation determined my ideal chicory-to-coffee ratio is zero:any.
What brands of chicory do you prefer? I like chicory but haven’t been successful in finding a solid brand for it that doesn’t also charge a crazy amount.
Do you toast the barley and/or rye? Toasted barley tea is something of a comfort drink for me, I really love the idea of combining with chicory
