    I was wondering why this was so far away from may first, which is dat of the workers or labor day in most of the world, only to find out that America does it differently.

      Grover Cleveland made it an official national holiday in 1894 after the Pullman strikes. He selected the September date to put distance between the socialist May Day protests and the concessions he was making to the Labor movement.
