    I always particularly hated this argument. “Who am I to try to understand god’s wisdom in allowing human suffering?” If god made us unable to understand why he does things, then what the fuck is the point of religion. He clearly doesn’t give a shit what we think, so we should ignore him instead of wasting our time. He can do his good works regardless of our participation.

    If a priest replied “I’m not sure why he would do that, let’s try harder to figure it out” then at least continued devotion would make sense under the condition of accepting the premise. The thought terminating cliche of “God works in mysterious ways” just invalidates the whole thing.
