McConnell represents the state of Kentucky.

He is fortunate to be employed in a job with excellent benefits. There is no federal law, however, that provides guaranteed paid sick leave. In 2025, about 27 million private sector workers had no paid sick leave.
One reason: Mitch McConnell. Since he entered the Senate in 1985, he has voted against creating or expanding paid leave at least 23 times.
Most recently, rail workers threatened to strike in 2022. Politicians panicked because it would have paralyzed the US economy. Senators stepped in to impose a new contract for the workers and avert a strike.
