This is all your own faults, if you’re reading this, including our local ban evader (thank you for telling me about legacy device lockdown). I wish I could combine mbin and Lemmy so I could just use my account here.

I like the easy way of tagging and the “boost” functions of mbin. But I’m playing with Privacy Browser + Fake Traveler (it leaks, but not too badly. If an admin reads this and will inform me of timezones or any other leaks between the two, I would appreciate it).

First, Privacy Browser: the dev may be a member of the LDS, or share a unique name. No hate, just remarking. Apparently his family member had credit card details stolen from Amazon. It’s going to take a lot of acclimation.

Privacy Browser won’t import my bookmarks. Incompatible file type. It does save bookmarks, but not passwords. So being lazy and pushing a button to save username or email address, while generating a password, is definitely insecure and probably ends up on the darkweb somewhere, and certainly in my personal 14 Eyes dossiers, but also makes for lazy memory. But also, brute forcing anything I can invent and also remember, especially unique passwords across myriad websites is probably trivial.

Secondly, mbin (really kbin.earth, using mbin) with Cloudflare isn’t having any of it, despite both cookies and JavaScript being enabled. I just went over to search in the process of posting this and tried searching, using the Ecosia engine, which also uses Cloudflare. Turns out it’s definitely Cloudflare.

Thirdly, Cloudflare is a privacy nightmare. In other browsers with any sort of alleged “tracking protection,” you can see that Cloudflare is a privacy nightmare. I had hoped to persuade the kbin admin to switch to Anubis, but they politely declined, for whatever their own reasons. I like Lemmy very much, but being lazy and complacent, I also very much like the ability to easily tag posts, see and participate with content on instances that have our darling troika or some portion blocked, and the “boost,” function. If I see something here that really trips my trigger, I will go over there to boost, crosspost, tag or some combination. Likewise, if I’m over there and want you guys to see something, I’ll post it from over there, except in some cases, I can’t find the proper magazine, and I’m not sure why, yet. I posted about it in the kbin meta, like I did about posts not federating properly between the two instances.

I’ve looked at other browsers, but I’m one person with divided attention, so I chose this one to test drive, first.

That’s really all I can remember, for the moment, but if anyone shows any interest, I’ll add more as I encounter and remember. I hope everyone is feeling blessed, loved, and grateful. Life is but a blink of the cosmic eye. And if no one has told you lately, I love you. All of you. And I appreciate you putting up with my moods.

There was a post just recently about non-Chrome browser options. Couldn’t hurt to try one of the options there. Chromium is probably the most seamless, and LibreWolf the most private by default.

I visited the embedded link in the post here, and the host was using Cloudflare. This time it passed two checks but returned a host resolution issue. Improvement. I wonder if it’s the way admins are configuring Cloudflare settings?

Edit: kbin issues persist as before.
