    They should make an implant that communicates directly with the optic nerve. Because retinal implants only work when there is still a potentially functioning retina that can be stimulated in the first place.

      Retina does a lot of image processing which we almost certainly don’t understand. Unless we can simulate it somehow, it probably wouldn’t help.
