Everyone in 2027:

Oh… a random bookmark folder in my browser…

Also bookmark Stremio. It can stream torrents if you use the Torrentio addon. And if you pay for a debrid service like alldebrid or realdebrid it can easily stream 4K Blu-ray remux files.
Both Plex and Jellyfin? Why
Different providers? Plex has hosted content and a handful of features that jellyfin doesn’t. Also some people have the lifetime Plex pass. Also also, it may be a hosted Plex/jellyfin server that OP doesn’t operate locally and hosts different content.
Pay? Lol.
Running your own Jellyfin instance full of items gathered upon the high seas.

Worse than that, since they killed the sharing off now a Netflix account isn’t your account, it’s an account you buy for one “household” location using one internet connection.
If you try to sign in to netflix on hotel tvs it won’t let you, because that isn’t part of your “household.” If you have multiple internet connections in your house you can have that same issue inside your own home, because Netflix will decide the internet connection you use most is your “household” connection and the other one doesn’t count as being in your “household” even if it’s in the next room.
If you travel a lot or have an atypical internet setup in your own house Netflix will deny you access and tell you to buy a subscription for that location.
besides the sharing, netflix cancelling alot of shows after 1,2,3 seasons is enough not to subscribe to it, plus the enormous amounts of time between seasons.
Back in my days, seasons would end for summer and you knew the cliffhanger would be resolved next season in the fall lineup
with a healthy amount of episodes usually around 15-20 for the year, instead of 8 per 2 years, or more, its the streaming penny pinching.
I’m not disagreeing with you, just wanted to mention that this is not necessary their fault. i got super mad when they cancelled a series i was watching more through. turned out that the owner of the show (i think Paramount) just cancelled all contracts to stream it exclusively on their platform.
VPNs have entered the chat.
Never paying for any subscription 🤴
Subscriptions?
I only pay for prescriptions.I cut the cord when netflix was just mail order CDs. The moment they started their bullshit with password sharing, I canceled my sub and never went back. Hulu got the axe too. If you live long enough, you either die a hero, or become the villain. Nextflix decided to become the villain.
I’m a Luddite
I’m still absolutely unaware of what the “fediverse” is, or how lemmy works
I took two months to figure out how to Chromecast to a TV when something changed and I couldn’t follow basic instructions from Google
And yet, even I am able to easily find sites to watch the shit I want to that requires paying shitty 'Murican companies (mostly I enjoy SBS and ABC stuff, because I live in Australia and they have wonderful offerings for all who live here for free)
S T R E A M I O
They planned it this way. Netflix admitted it at the demo to ad sales execs. They deliberately priced streaming low and ran off investor funds because they new they’d get valuable information for ads since streaming is much more monitoring than broadcast.
I mean… it’s entertainment. It’s not like they are offering some basic utilities. Buy it if you think it’s worth it, don’t buy it if you don’t. Plenty of cheap alternatives on TV or in a library. I really don’t remember Netflix of Apple promising to entertain everyone as cheaply as possible. They were always there to make money.
Or sign up for a month, binge, cancel.
If only they never caught on
I have every major steaming service, usually wait for a super deal like AMC + for $30 for 12 months. HBO max is included with my phone plan, peacock with my internet bill, paramount plus with another service I subscribe to, Amazon with Amazon prime subscription, I got more then I need with streaming service. Actually pay for Netflix and Apple plus
Arrrrrrr.
Don’t even know how to hit the high seas anymore
