I took a year of German in high school but this guy keeps popping up on loops so I’m out of the loop so to speak. Anyone care to let a non Deutsch speaker in on who this is and what he’s about?
This is Friedrich Merz, inner-party arch-rival of Angela Merkel, ex-BlackRock functionary (big bank) without previous governmental experience, who holds speeches and enacts laws against workers, unemployed, sick et al, calling them lazy, unaffordable, untrustworthy/cheating, spoiled, while being generally racist, sexist and classist.
He’s famous for many bad things, but one incident examplifies this: He once lost his notebook with important data in a public place and a homeless person found it and gave it back to him - Merz gives him his book about starting a business as thanks.
The text in this picture says: “Why are you not at work?”, the you is quite formal.

Friedrich Merz, the probably worst chancellor of the Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
So far
But no one else had to endure as much as he did :(
