Summary

Despite supporting a potential TikTok ban, many U.S. politicians, including 23 members of Congress who voted for the ban, actively used the platform to campaign in 2024.

Notable figures like Donald Trump and Kamala Harris leveraged TikTok’s vast reach to connect with voters, despite citing national security risks.

Critics highlight this contradiction, with some arguing it reflects political hypocrisy.

TikTok’s algorithm remains a powerful tool for outreach, but concerns about data privacy and the lack of comprehensive tech regulation persist as debates over the platform’s future continue.

You can criticize something and still recognize that until it’s prohibited, it’s a necessary tool.

This is a silly argument especially w.r.t. things like the stock market, tips, or retirement accounts with tax exemptions. None of them should exist (imo) but I’m not going to put myself at a financial disadvantage or fuck over a specific server because of my ideals.

We can want a better world while understanding that we need to follow the rules of the world we live in.

Hm, would you burn oil to fight climate change? Fell trees to advertise for forest preservation?

It’s the age old question of whether the ends do justify the means.

I can’t blame them. Use every tool you have. However one idea would be to try to funnel users to other platforms as much as possible as a part of the campaign.
