My dad opened youtube on his TV and the thumbnails of the recommended shorts (which is the first thing you see) were AI generated images of scantily clad ladies. This shit is being directly beamed into the lead poisoned mush brains of boomers.
Its not boomers, I have firefox set to delete everything once I closed it and I dont use a YT account, every time I open YT for the first time in the session what I see in shorts, or at least one of them, is an AI generated booty or some shit like that. I guess the algorithm understands youre sexual preferences and tries to shovel some soft porn kind of shit. I dont even watch porn or something that could maybe make it thing im interested in that, they just want to alienate you beyond all reason.
What I meant is that the boomer brain is especially vulnerable to these kinds of videos.
Oh fuck…
How the fuck else am I gonna get my fucking family guy memes
Shit, swapping TikTok for Reels and Shorts wasn’t as good as a decision as I thought
Here is the relevant bit from the article. SFV = short form video:
SFV type emerged as a significant moderator of the association between SFV use and mental health, with general SFV use demonstrating stronger negative associations than TikTok-specific use. A potential explanation for this finding is that general SFV use often reflects engagement across multiple platforms, which has been associated with elevated mental health risks. For example, Primack et al. (2017) found that individuals using 7–11 social media platforms had over three times the risk of depression and anxiety compared to those using only 0–2. Accordingly, general SFV use likely reflects more diverse and frequent exposure to short-form content, including across platforms that integrate SFV features (e.g., Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts). This broader pattern of general SFV use highlights the need to conceptualize SFV engagement beyond TikTok alone, particularly as users commonly migrate between platforms. The recent (temporary) banning of TikTok in the United States, for instance, prompted a surge of “TikTok refugees” shifting to alternatives like RedNote and Lemon8 (Australian Broadcasting Corporation, 2025). Yet “general SFV use” may also refer to a single platform, raising concerns about measurement precision. It is therefore important for research to clearly specify which platforms participants use and whether engagement spans multiple apps. As SFV features become increasingly integrated across the social media landscape, research and public health efforts should consider cumulative SFV exposure rather than focusing on individual platforms in isolation.
Honestly yeah. I can’t say anything about Reels but yt shorts are the absolute worst. I genuinely get angry watching them because I get one good 30 second long video after a half an hour of the worst most mind numbing content, which is usually just people reading other social media posts in a funni voice. It’s just enough to keep me reeled in, but it’s just the worst thing ever. It doesn’t help that trying to search anything on yt is impossible nowadays. They just really wanna keep you on the reccomendeds and God forbid you want to do anything else
yeah…no kidding. brainrot content in this format is contributing to the atomization of society…
Skimming through the study it doesn’t seem to say that at all. They use the term general sfv use to mean using multiple sites/apps instead of just one (like tiktok). Please correct me if I’m wrong though.
yeah I think you’re right actually
