No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does trump know he cheats at golf?English
1·4 months agoELI5: what does it mean to cheat at golf? I’ve only golfed about 6 times in my life, and everyone I’ve golfed with does a Mulligan on every other hole, tosses a ball hit into tall grass onto the fairway, throws out a new ball if they hit it into the woods, etc. They’ll usually add another stroke to their score for these, but what does it matter if you’re only playing against yourself?

15·10 months ago“per se” (US) - people generally use it as “exactly” or “specifically”, e g. “It’s not circular, per se, more like a rounded rectangle”. However, it actually means “in and of itself”. I have a coworker that misuses this one constantly (and also spells it incorrectly) and it’s become a huge pet peeve.
This is just for the Democratic primary, not the general election - but the same idea applies there, as it weakens the ability of the party leadership to choose who wins
