Basically the user experience is well thought out, polished, and high quality. The workflows are mostly intuitive for doing basic things. The only exception to this is the lack of repository and package manager. The .dmg drag and drop thing is… honestly kind of jarring.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL portable breathalyzers aren't _**generally**_ admissable in courtEnglish
2·3 days agoNormally there are several different crimes you can be charged with for DUI/DWI which range from basically the cop just testifying that you are impaired, to actual scientific demonstration of impairment. Things like the field sobriety tests and portable breathalyzers just provide subjective evidence the cop can lean on to charge you under some impairment statute which doesn’t require a blood draw or other lab calibrated test.
A MBP is super easy to open up compared to just about every other shitty piece of plastic held together by clips molded into the case.
Yes I use a MacBook to remote into my Linux boxes. Because Apple hardware is just so much better than anything else you can buy, and zsh terminal is fine. I would probably put Linux on it if I could, though to be honest the ergonomics and vertical integration with MacOS is just very good, and I’d have to really consider tradeoffs. Like swapping and memory management on MacOS is just magic on Apple silicon. I have a thinkpad with Debian as my “utility knife” laptop, and it has 8GB more, slower RAM, but my M2 MBP is significantly smoother even on stuff like FreeCAD which it is basically a RAM/swap stress test.

2·3 days agoYou can’t get numb to it. $14M was our revenue three years into a green tech startup/coop I worked at which employed like 40 people/co-owners. That was enough to be paying out like $15k+ bonuses/dividends to each employee. The entire company was started with a $1.5M dept of agriculture grant. It’s a lot of money that you can do a lot of good with.

Like, if you grow tomatoes, nobody goes “damn you could sell these.” Because everyone understands that having a backyard garden is a hobby, with the benefit that you get some decent tomatoes, though at fairly high cost compared to just about any other source of tomatoes.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How tf do people who work 8-5 M-F get any life done?English
6·5 days agoI don’t have kids so I just work like 6-2 and the occasional weekend in order to keep afternoons open. It also helps that I’m basically unsupervised and nobody really keeps track of what I’m doing. Maybe once every six weeks I intentionally work like 4 hours on a Saturday and make a big fucking deal about it to give the perception that I am both busy and productive.
