politics @lemmy.world•Who’d have thought a fossil-fuel shill like Trump would be the one to spark a green revolution?
5·16 hours agoThe reality of a first-past-the-post system is that it is far easier to co-opt an existing party than to launch a new one. The latter approach usually means handing power to the people you dislike the most

1·2 days agoThe key problem with the UN COP process is that it can only act by consensus, which in practice is usually treated as requiring unanimity. So you can Saudi Arabia or the US to block any meaningful shift away from fossil fuels.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•I Found It: The Best Free Restaurant Bread in America | Thirteen thousand miles. Infinite contenders. One beautiful loaf.
5·4 days agoSome people really like it, but not that many. Per the article:
Dividing votes (40) by location (215) gives the Cheesecake Factory—the restaurant that received the most total votes—a bestness rate of 0.19, or the equivalent of 19 votes per 100 restaurants. Lambert’s Cafe earns a bestness rate of 2.66—the equivalent of 266 votes per 100 restaurants. While imperfect, this method at least does not penalize restaurants for failing to be national chains—though, for the purposes of the poll, I accept all nominations at face value.

It’s easy to find documentation of their positions on fluoridation; it’s not so common to find evidence of environmental groups opposing it when there was a clear public health benefit.

8·5 days agoYou’re looking at studies of the impact at far higher fluoride concentrations than are used in the US. We’ve known that those high concentrations are problematic for a very long time…which is why they’re not used. They remain a problem in some parts of the world where fluoride is naturally present.

Lots of choices, and really important that Democrats figure out how to at least somewhat consolidate so that we don’t end up with an R vs R general election.

Useful in NY where 3rd party cross endorsement is printed on the ballot. Limited impact elsewhere unless you’ve got a media microphone
