  • It isn’t?

Sure, consumption means creating demand, but it’s not directly harmful for the child. There is definitely much more wiggle room than when talking about straight up abuse or creating material.

I’d be inclined to agree that pedophiles should not get access to CSAM, and even just owning some should be an offense. I am open to discussion with professionals though, if they say it will be helpful and deliver a good argument, I’d be open to change my opinion. Which makes this a grey area IMO

  • I’ve been jobless for a year and recently found a job again as well. After my first day I was so exhausted, it was unbelievable. I literally came home after work, made and had some food, chilled on discord with a friend for an hour and was already too tired, so I went to bed after being awake for about 12h.

Starting a new job, a new chapter of your life is exhausting. You learn a lot of new things, you get a lot of new impressions. All this requires the gray matter in your skull to work pretty hard.

Now, even with mentally demanding jobs, you’ll form routines that make things easier. Not just stuff like a morning routine or your route to work, but also work processes become easier after you get into the groove. On top of that, with time there are less new things you need to remember, like names of your coworkers, your offices layout, or what bus to take.

It gets easier with time. Hang in there.

  • IMO the worst that could happen with hard alcohol is much worse than public intox. Of course it depends on the kid but I’m thinking of hanging with the wrong crowd or street fights and such.

Yes, becoming a parent is a huge deal. But nobody forces you to be one. There are contraceptives for after having sex, there is abortion and there is adoption.

I agree you shouldn’t provide the drugs for your child. However, if my 17yo child were to ask me for a drug test kit (eg. to check that there’s no weird shit in the weed) I’d happily provide. Same with condoms. I won’t encourage them having sex, but providing a space safe to do so is not facilitating. It’s keeping your kid safe while they are doing something that you can’t stop them from doing.

  • Elections in the US aren’t really all that fair TBH.

Researchers at the Brookings Institution agree that the strategic manipulation of our electoral process is largely to blame for the erosion of US democracy in recent years. Brookings says this manipulation takes various forms: the intentional addition of administrative barriers to voting, unfairly drawing electoral maps, the subversion of the election certification and counting process, and the violent coup attempt on January 6, 2021.

The United States is experiencing two major forms of democratic erosion in its governing institutions:

    • Strategic manipulation of elections. Distinct from “voter fraud,” which is almost non-existent in the United States, election manipulation has become increasingly common and increasingly extreme. Examples include election procedures that make it harder to vote (like inadequate polling facilities) or that reduce the opposing party’s representation (like gerrymandering).
    • Executive aggrandizement. Even a legitimately elected leader can undermine democracy if they eliminate governmental “checks and balances” or consolidate power in unaccountable institutions. The United States has seen substantial expansions of executive power and serious efforts to erode the independence of the civil service. In addition, there are serious questions about the impartiality of the judiciary.
