I believe it is from The Onion, the typography looks a lot like it. Would have been nice if OP posted link to the source i suppose.

Big players like OpenAI lose money on every non-paying user. They can do this because they expect to be the one who takes it all in the end. But this will not last. There will be a day the remaining companies will stop giving out freebies and the wide arrange of options we have now will shrink and the remaining options will enshittify. If their costs rise, their prices will increase and they might find themselves in a position not making any money anymore.
Isn’t the flag just a symbol, considering the person in charge changes? If so, you could argue pledging allegiance to whoever is top dog is much worse than pledging allegiance to a mortal person. Not necessarily comparing US and NK here.
The current concept of a nation state is greatly helped by nationalism, and giving people a passport and a nationality at birth does help to have them connect to the highest level of government and not just their local region, but people have died in the name of their country long before anyone wrote a word about nationalism. People have an inner need to connect to others, the people in charge of a village want their village to be part of something greater, people in charger of that greater thing do too, and on and on.
Brainwashing people with nationalism can certainly be helpful for people with power, i don’t disagree, but I don’t think it on it’s own is all that is needed for countries to come into being and people to rally behind it’s flag. Pride is another thing we are all born with in greater or lesser extend. We want do not only want to be part of a tribe, we want our tribe to be the best tribe.

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Why Estonians invite strangers into their back gardens each summer
111·19 hours agoNice article, can recommend reading. For everybody just looking for the answer:
[…] Kodukohvikute Päev, or “home cafe day”, when locals turn private gardens, courtyards and garages into temporary eateries for one day in July.
More than 150 such events are held across Estonia between April and September, a beloved tradition that has spread steadily since the first event almost two decades ago. Some are elaborate, with rented tents, tables and chairs; others are little more than a lemonade stand manned by children.

2·19 hours agoIn cases like this blame and fault are almost irrelevant, what is relevant is what do your actions lead to. I’m not arguing an individual can do everything when it comes to things like this, we as individuals have to pick our battles - but the people who choose not to fight any battle at all and stay with the status quo should understand they are part of the reason the status quo is maintained and are part of the reason enshittification is happening.
It’s good that you understand not everybody can do what you do, but we shouldn’t be giving everyone free passes and allow them to believe they have zero accountability.

6·19 hours agoThere is two options: either you have a corporation so everything and they require a way to pay their employees (and most will want some profit), this is the Google way. Of course you can switch to an alternative of a less evil corporation, but you will still be part of that system. The other option is crowd sourced, where everyone who uses also provides a bit. If you use an app based on data from OpenStreetMap, you will find local information lacking. But the beauty is, you can easily contribute. I think Wikipedia is the biggest example of how this system can work. Personally I use CoMaps. Can recommend it, but there are similar options that are just as open source.
