Jesus… it’s like piranhas devouring a carcass. That women using the plate as a shovel… gees.
My name is Bruce
I absolutely think that’s a large part of it.
As much as I really really like AOC, I wonder if the rest of America isn’t ready to elect a woman. We’ve had two female candidates and both times we got Trump. Granted the first time was Hillary and I held my nose to vote for her (now I’d vote for a fresh dog turd before I’d vote Trump, but something about the whole Hillary thing just rubbed me the wrong way, especially with what happened to Bernie), and the second time they really screwed up at the last minute with Joe. I guess I’m just skittish at this point.
I really hope I’m wrong, because AOC is just a hair behind Bernie in my opinion and I love Bernie. I think she’d be a really intelligent take no shit leader and I am so desperate for that right now.
I still think this is all pointless and just puts extra strain on the infrastructure needed to create the certs. The chances of a successful MITM attack are very very small. Places like Let’s Encrypt and the like have done way more for security by making cert creation more automated than shortening these certs lifespans. The bigger problem is self signed certs, expired certs, and/or certs based on weak/outdated protocols. The only thing this is going to accomplish is a general acceptance of slack security practices. Want proof. Go look at any office that requires too frequent password changes with asinine complex password rules and you’ll find many many more passwords written on sticky notes or passwords that do silly things like incrementing a number on the end or something similar.
In my opinion, this whole thing is putting a bandaid on a bullet wound. If you want to fix the issues, make the certs more secure not shorter lived, create better revocation processes, and automate the hell out of everything.
It’s just a matter of time before those are enshittified as well.
Edit: ok my bad… apparently you can side load different launchers. I may check one of those out then.
I totally read that as killing machine and got confused.
Oh god!!! That’s way worse!!!
Cat Bukake!
Well shit….
Reading is fun for mentals…
Every gen-x’er is gonna score a 20.
So you can’t be Angry and Horny?!?!
I’m so confused. The dog is heroic just be being able to not eat the ham on his face.
I gotta comment on the mid 70s thing and how great it is to hear that. I have also been into computers since the late 70s (well and early 80s) although I imagine I got started a little younger than you … like I was 8 and writing basic/ assembly on my various machines back in the day (TRS-80 Model III, Tandy CoCo 2, Coleco Adam, C64). So I’m only mid 50s and I thought I was the old guy around here :) But damn if you don’t give me hope that I can stay like this for many years to come.
I’m not sure “Reddit levels of activity” is necessarily a good thing :)
But yeah that takes some getting used to for sure. I would think this is one of the more popular communities here for kinda obvious reasons given the nature of Lemmy. I’ve only been here since the first great migration but I’ve already seen Lemmy in general grow tremendously.
I have a ton of these in the garage for woodworking. Screw the carpenters pencils, these are way better.
Why is Columbia University turning into such a fascist little bitch?
Yeah that’s a good analogy.
Yeah anything ephemeral is fine like chats and what not. But this idea of using it as support platform is just dumb. You end up with people asking the same question over and over and it either doesn’t get answered because no one is around to answer it or likely because they’re annoyed at the same questions over and over. There is no organization and no institutional knowledge. It’s like it ends up being set up by people who think it’s what the cool kids want. And these giant communities just exacerbate this issue. Everything ends up being noise. It’s the reason I usually ended up turning off the world or general channels in WoW. It just ended up being annoying and distracting.
When I’m trying resolve a situation that I need some sort of support I wanna be able to search if others have had the same issue and see discussion around that topic. I don’t need synchronous communication for that. I don’t care if it was 3 months ago someone had the problem if they figured out how to fix it. The way to do that is forums, Reddit (well before the enshittification), or even Lemmy.
I’m 54 and have ADHD. It may ever regress. Well according to my wife who says I act like teenage boy sometimes … especially with the filter turned off.
