Identity verification, not age verification. You would have to give anyone on the internet access to your identity.

I’m just sick of seeing “age verification” plastered all over the internet when that’s not what it’s about.

So one should just sacrifice everyone elses safety and privacy because you’re bad a recognizing faces? I get that it can be helpful, but you are literally uploading strangers faces and likeness to Meta’s servers without their consent. It’s creepy and predatory.

We need to stop calling it age verification. It’s identity verification. You will have to give them your full identity to message strangers, watch YouTube, look at porn, or play online games.

I know this isn’t exactly what this article is about but it’s something I’m getting increasingly tired of seeing posted every single day. Most people never read past the headlines and don’t even read the comments so I will continue to mention it in hopes someone new sees it.

They were gonna lay those people off regardless of whether or not they were using AI. The only difference is that if they say it was because of AI the line will go up and they will make more money. If anything, the extra money they make just by saying it was because of AI could easily pay the salary of those being layed off. It’s basically a magic word that gives them free money. I don’t even think wallstreet is even in on the hype and are just pumping it as high as they can so they can make out like bandits when shit hits the fan.

If it was the 100th, the 200th, or even the 300th I would get it. But the 250th? That literally means nothing. It’s like celebrating my 25th birthday as if it’s as big a deal as my 21st or 30th. In reality I don’t even remember my 25th birthday because nobody, including myself, gave a shit.

I’m pretty sure it’s literally just because the majority of those in power right now won’t be alive for the 300th birthday and they just picked the next best looking number they found find.

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely agree with you, but Steam is not the only place with this problem and Steam isn’t the only one with lackluster moderation for it. We literally wouldn’t be in the global political situations were in right now if it wasn’t for propaganda flooding every facet of the internet. Gamers are a minority internationally and most actual gamers think the steam forums are not even worth looking at.

I’m just saying don’t blame only blame Steam. There’s an issue with this type of shit literally everywhere and nobody in charge gives a shit.

I had this weird syncronisticity a few years back where at least once a week I’d look at the time it it’d be 4:04. I’d often say “404: Time not found” and literally nobody ever got it so I started just saying it in my head instead.

I switch between the two depending on what I’m looking for but I’ve been leaning towards DuckDuckGo. The only problem with DuckDuckGo is that it actually works like a search engine so I have to go back to Google when I wanna find an obscure reddit post that solves my issue because it’s the best way to search for tech problems through Reddit. That’s literally all Google is these days, AI and Reddit.

In my opinion, it’s not even meant to stop kids from using the internet. I believe it’s to collect data on people that don’t know any better or don’t care about uploading their ID or face to some mysterious server. The type of people that click “accept all” for cookies when they go to a website and those that live in the “if you don’t have anything to hide than it shouldn’t be a problem” camp. I have a friend like this that whenever I bring it up he simply does not give a single shit about his own privacy on the internet and just calls the whole thing, in his own words, a “nothingburger.”

Explaining this to the layman is honestly infuriating. They just tell you that you are overreacting and that it’s not a big deal. That if you have nothing to hide than you shouldn’t have to worry. An analogy I came up with that sometimes helps is removing all the doors in public bathrooms. If you have nothing to hide than you shouldn’t be worried, right? Are you comfortable with your mom or employer knowing your browsing habits with your ID and/or face attached to it? What about that time you posted a meme to your friends discord server making fun of Donald Trump?

Out of the top 10 busiest airports 6 are in democratic states and/or cities. Out of the top 5 international airports 3 of them are in democratic states and/or cities. If he did this it would literally grind our entire country to a halt.

I think with Trump in the US and Netanyahu in Israel bringing so much attention to far right extremism and blasting it all over the internet and showing how absolutely disgusting it can get has opened some peoples eyes. I remember seeing the election in Canada do a complete 180 after it became apparent what was happening with authoritarianism worldwide.

In my mind it’s the same idea as burning down your house to cook a burger. Yeah, you cooked the burger, but you literally destroyed everything else just to make it. Or you could just cook it on the stove.

With AI companies it seems they’d rather destroy the planet and poison the internet to a point of unusability just to make their AI models. Yeah, they’ll get their result, but they literally destroyed everything just to make it.

Personally I have nothing against AI and the practicality of it. I do, however, have a problem with AI companies destroying everything to achieve their vague goals of “the future.”

The only place I ever run into people that love AI is on the internet and old people posting “memes” on Facebook. Younger people especially hate AI.

Reminds me of when people would always say that the lottery is just a tax on the poor. Well, now we are all poor and prediction markets make it way too easy to gamble.

Look, I really enjoy gambling. I’m fully aware that I have an addictive personality and that I could fuck myself at any moment just by dabbling here and there and not being able to get out. Regardless, going to a casino with some friends is one of my favorite past times. And as someone that enjoys gambling and believes is usually pro gambling, these apps need to be banned yesterday. Nobody that enjoys gambling should be able to have the option to gamble on literally everything. It’s highly addicting and could ruin your life in a matter of hours even before prediction markets. As a matter of fact, I’ve caught myself in the process of setting up an account or downloading an app for a prediction market multiple times before catching myself and closing out.
