  • You’re not paying for the booze, you’re paying for space and time in that spot. It’s so expensive to keep the doors open. All the licencing and insurance. Wages, rent. It all adds up so quickly. I worked at a modest sized place for a few years and got to know the business side of it. It was at least 7k a week through the till to break even.

Edit: to all the bar haters out there; find a spot without TVs or blaring music. You may be surprised by how nice it can be just chilling and having some drinks. So many bars are just sensory overload. A nice quiet drinking hole is worth its weight in gold.

  • Indoor plumbing. Seriously. Go without for a couple of weeks and tell me how you feel about hot showers and flush toilets.

Also, people really underestimate how difficult it would be to just fuck off into the woods. You’d need a good amount of planning and knowledge to do it. What’s edible within what time range. Where the animals are at what time of year. And if you’re up north you always gotta be laying in firewood.

Also civilization has taken over most of the good hunter gatherer/ subsistence farming spots. River valleys, estuaries, anywhere with good fertile soil. Most of the places with good desolate wilderness to fuck off into was left desolate because it’s fucking desolate.

  • I noticed my dreams get more hectic and urgent if I have to pee. If I get up, relive the bladder and then go back to sleep it’s sweet dreams again.

But I wish I could remember my dreams better. I wake up convinced I could write a banger of a novel some days. But they’re gone so quickly from my reckoning. The brain is such a weird thing.

  • Oh man this is one of my pet peeves. You’re standing in line, then in front of the cashier. All to pay for your stuff. Then it’s this whole production werin a look of surprise that, yes you do actually have to pay, followed by 5 minutes of digging through the bag for your card.

Most people pay with a card. You can usually tap your card as soon as the cashier scans something.

  • If you look on a globe, in addition to the equator, you’ll see two other lines labeled tropics. These lines represent where on earth, as the planet shifts on its axis through the seasons, the sun is directly overhead at each solstice. Everything north or south of the tropics has noons at less than 90⁰ year round.
