This guy was growing weed and doing just fine at it. Only because he decided to steal power also, he got caught.

I mean I tried calling the ISP in my teens. They wouldn’t talk to me and left us without internet for months. They would only talk to the bill payer, who was in Afghanistan at the time.

You are calling about a billing issue when ypu are not the account holder. You were not old enough to negotiate a contract so they could not help you.

The OP in the green text was calling about stolen power. That shouldn’t require talking to the account holder.

I don’t care about people growing weed and making some moneys.

But if you’re going to fuck up the electricity net or even stealing it from your neighbors, you’re a fuckhead.

Nowadays you can just use LED lights and a heat pump and be extremely stealthy. Maybe even put some solar panels.

I mean the old saying goes “don’t shit where you sleep” meaning if you’re going to be a criminal don’t make your neighbors dislike you.

I’ve heard stories of drug dealers and gang members being some of the best members of their hyper-local communities because they take this to heart. Your neighbors are the most likely to suspect something is off, if you kill them with kindness and generosity they’re a far less likely to be nosy into your personal affairs and get you caught

A power company willingly looking at increasing residential capacity or fixing issues that can’t be blamed on the homeowner? HA

We had a bad transformer that took 6 months of constant nagging before they would even send a tech out, and they still threatened to charge us for the visit. That guy turned white as a ghost when we told him the issues we were having and that the transformer was the one next to the neighbor’s massive nearly dead tree. The internal bars had melted and he said it could have exploded at any point, easily burning at least that neighbor’s house down, and probably a good chunk of the neighborhood since it was a dry desert climate.

My dad ran a business out of our garage when I was a kid. Big machinery. And whenever he’d get into to something tough and bog the machines down, the power in the house would sag so much the lights would brown out and the picture on the tube tv would get real small. This happened all the time, for YEARS. We’d called and complained so many times. Every once in a while they’d send a tech out, he’d plug into the meter socket on our house with a tester, then deem the values appropriate, and leave.

We were like no seriously, when there’s a real heavy load it’s bad. Nope, it’s fine, blah blah.

        For YEARS.

Then one day the breaker on the pole blew, and they came out to reset it. And when THIS lady came, we begged her, please, something is wrong, please look closer. So she climbed the pole, low and behold the transformer and wiring was all roasted up there. I forget what the explanation was, but they needed to replace the whole thing.

We never had a problem after that 🤷‍♂️

Yeah after the previous story, about 6 months later they came to upgrade basically the entire grid section in our area. We had a talk to the engineer and she had been able to use our section as justification for getting some sort of brand new and very expensive testing equipment.

Our neighborhood was built in the early 1960s. So at the time it was about 50 years old, and the electrical usage of homes then was vastly different than it is now. Unlike modern homes with power outlets every 6 feet or so on every wall, we have two outlets per room, if we’re lucky. She seemed very happy that we had pushed the issue because apparently that equipment had been requested for years before she finally had a real world justification that management would finally approve.

Generally if you own a license for one version on PC you also get a license for the other, but it does sound like there’s cases where you don’t.

When I got my eldest a license it covered both Java and Bedrock, and my license that dates back to the Beta days also gave me a free Bedrock license (I tried the Nvidia RTX demos then realized how incredibly limited Bedrock was because it would t let me play a normal world in RTX and so I said “screw this” and went back to Java)

I’m pretty sure my wife’s fairly new license also gave us both Java and Bedrock edition licenses too, but she’s never tried Bedrock

I don’t think it’s like external ads, just ads for Minecraft stuff hosted/promoted by Microsoft. idk, I don’t pay attention to them and try to avoid bedrock. but yes, you have to pay for each version of the game, around $30 each

If you’re specifically looking for YouTubers and streamers who aren’t annoying, you will definitely find them. Have you seen regular old children’s TV? “Obnoxious” is just what children like.

As many others have pointed out, Microsoft made Minecraft shit. 10 - 15 years ago it was an awesome little game. Loved to play it with my friends on our server. Somebody was always online and you could talk, hang out, explore or do a project together.

Nowadays you open it and it has a shop and some ingame currency and weird collabs with popular IPs. That’s simply not what Minecraft used to be and whenever I watch a modern trailer for it, I wanna throw up.

I have been playing Minecraft with a small group of friends on a self-hosted private server on and off for the past 15 years. No ads, no coin shop, no annoyance.

As for the screaming YouTubers, obviously they exist, but there are also some nice chill peeps out there. EthosLab or Bdoubleo100 for example - especially their single player worlds where it’s just them working on projects and building.

Java edition is also developed by Mojang/Microsoft and is basically identical to the bedrock edition in core features.

It was the original Minecraft edition, and if you remember playing Minecraft 10 to 15 years ago it would likely be the Java edition you were doing it on.

base Minecraft is still there (except in bedrock, bedrock is super enshittified with official servers and ads and stuff and they make it difficult to connect to your own self hosted server, it’s fucked)

but java, you can still play just like old times, for the most part. shittier launcher. more login annoyances. but that’s about it in my experience.

minecraft can be very nice and wholesome, it’s just that nice and wholesome doesn’t sell (or rather big companies don’t think it sells in this case). hermitcraft is an example of nice and wholesome minecraft, just a bunch of people playing on one minecraft server for a year or more (and then they start a new world, restarting the series in a new season) and making videos about every week. the members are usually pretty creative and kindhearted, and I can’t really complain about them at all except maybe iskall, who had allegations pop up about him sexting women while married, who reacted to the allegations super unhelpfully and who left or got kicked off the server very quickly. major decisions like that are done by the server members voting on decisions instead of just one person being a bit dictatorish.
